Question about Philips 42PF9630A 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Philips 42PF9630A 42 In. Plasma has no picture

My Philips 42PF9630A 42 In. Plasma suddenly went to a blank screen, and there were some flashing lights in the front led. I unplugged it from the power supply. Now there is no picture and has a steady red light in the front. I do get sound. I took the back off and checked the capacitors and they look ok. Not sure what the problem is. Please help.

Z sustain board should be suspected. A through check should be done before confirming it. Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. You can also click the [Home] tab to see the latest updates. It will make search easy. There are more than 1350 posts to different brand TVs now. Pull up older posts there or make a search by type in the brand name of the device in the "Search Box", at the top right of the display window.

SOURCE: 7 red flashing lights, won't power up..

Check the power board for capacitors with the tops bulged up. They are 3300uf 10v. There are either 2 or 4 of them depending on your set.

2006 42" plasma has blank

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

I have sound but no picture. 42" plasma. i bought 4 years ago. last week the botom half of the screen started flashing back and forth between the picture and all black, but we just came home and now it is...

Sounds like you need a lower Y-DRV/BUFFER board (996500032640) and a Y-SUS board (996500032643). Part numbers listed are for models which use a Samsung Panel.

I have a Philips plasma 42 with black lines across the screen

I would first check if there is an available firmware upgrade for your model .Upgrade requires you to download firmware from philips website. Then transfer it to a memory stick .Then use a memory stick reader to plug into tv for firmware upgrade.Other wise the set would probably need repair .Possible a bad SSB board or another issue

Wow that is a lot of money in any currency. Coming from England its not uncommon to be paying £200+ to repair a tv like yours. If you could give a little more information then maybe I could narrow it down for you. You say its gone black but does your standby light still come on? If you try to turn it on with the remote control does the stanby light flash quickly then re-appear? Or does it come out of standby and have a black screen? Can youm get sound through a dvd player but no picture? If you can answer these questions who knows maybe he will do it cheaper if you supply the part yourself!!! Dont think he will but worth a try :-) please post again.

Blank Screen

Many have replaced caps on the SMPS board, with success:

2662 is a 1000μF 25v 85°C with 2663 and 2664 both 25v 100μF 25v

Some other pics of different caps: http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o229/garafrax/TV%20Repair/HPIM1458.jpg

Once you get it on, there are adjustments to the VS voltage to cure the speckle.
