I had this happen when I tried to install a new card on my husband's laptop. It turns out he had stuck the card in the laptop before the CD driver was installed. This will keep the card from installing properly. The card will not install correctly if it is placed into the system at any point before the driver is installed. We had to take ours back and replace it.

Hello,
you can download the drivers right to your computer. Here is the link:

This product has multiple versions. Please check the version number on your adapter to ensure that you load the appropriate driver.

I have the card installed and drivers loaded but the card still wont pickup the wireless networks in the area

Maybe the networks are not broadcasting, and are hidden. Also you may not be close enough to them, the most common wireless routers only extend signal 500ft. Test and confirm by visiting a free local wifi hotspot or known broadcasting wireless network.

I have my wireless adapter connected and it shows my required network in the list, but I am not able to connect to it

I had trouble with linksys router and modem, it saw connection but would not connect. I found that my network adapter (drivers) were not installed. Make sure you check that the drivers are installed. If it looks like it, then uninstall then re-install again.

Hope it helps.

MIL-W1897L cannot install device

Not much of a solution, but keep uninstalling and re installing the driver cos win98 not very good for driver issues, i remember having to fiddle around with it with win98se also. Perhaps the device is recognised but not being installed because of a faulty slot or mobo fault. But personally I wouldn't go on-line with win98, would advise upgrading to xp sp2, much better with security and easier to sort out driver issues. Trying to forget Win98/SE, not very pleasant!
