SOURCE: packard bell imedia alt-col2 just keeps beeping on and off

Find out what's making the noise first. It's either your fan or your hard drive. Check to make sure the noise your're hearing isn't your fan cutting into one of your wiring harnesses. That could be why you have the video problems. If it's your hard drive making the noise, that means it's on it's way out and you should immediately back up your files on disk and replace the drive before you lose everything.

IMEDIA 1307 BIOS

Does it post anything on the screen when it starts up? If so see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Maybe the bios is there but there is no Operating System.

You can try downloading and flashing the bios. I would think you need a ASUS Bios since that is the motherboard. Packard Bell would not have it.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AsusSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.

The best way to do it is to downlaod the bios available on your manufacturers website with the correct model no.
Save it on the computer.
Right click and then select run as a administarator.
Go through the proces.
restart the computer when you are done.

Need to know the spec for mother board

The Packard Bell iMedia D3318UK desktop computer?

If it is an iMedia D3318UK model it will have the Part Number - PV.U050Y.019 on the back of the computer tower.
(P/N PV.U050Y.019)

If this is the correct model;

Motherboard:
Made by ECS (EliteGroup Computer Systems) for Packard Bell

Packard Bell's name for the motherboard is Denver 10
It's a Micro-ATX form factor. (Size. Should be 9.6 inches by 9.6 inches, or also stated as 244mm by 244mm)

Uses the Nvidia nForce 610i Northbridge chipset
Uses the Nvidia GeForce 7050 Southbridge chipset.

(The Northbridge chipset, and the Southbridge chipset make up the motherboard chipset)

More information on Nvidia's nForce 610i chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_chipsets#For_Intel_processors_2

1) Uses the LGA 775 processor socket
The processor socket has the pins, while the processor has the socket holes.

2) Has support for Pentium 4, Celeron, Core2 Duo, and Core2 Quad processors, with up to a 1066MHz Front Side Bus. (FSB)

List of Intel Core2 Microprocessors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors

This way you can look at the processors with a 1066MHz FSB.

I know it will support the Conroe Core, Intel processors, but can't give you factual data at the moment, whether the BIOS program on that motherboard will support Intel's Wolfdale-3M Core processors.

3) Supports (Uses) DDR2 Sdram ram memory at either 533MHz, 667MHz, or 800MHz. (PC2-4300, PC2-5300, and PC2-6400 respectively)

Has two ram memory slots, and will support up to 8GB's of ram memory.

Bear in mind that this is only with a 64bit Operating System.
Otherwise it will support up to 4GB's of ram memory with a 32bit O/S.

(Windows XP Home is a 32bit O/S. Windows XP Pro also, but there is a 64bit version. Vista also comes in a 32bit version, as well as a 64bit version. Never assume all Vista versions are 64 bit.

Note*
With a 32 bit O/S, only 3.2 to 3.5GB's of ram memory will be recognized)

4) Has one PCI Express x16 graphics slot.

This graphics slot uses the PCI Express 1.1 technology.
You can use a graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology.

PCI Express 2.0 is Backward Compatible with PCI Express 1.1

You just will not get the full capability of the PCI Express 2.0 graphics card.
Will you notice?
Doubtful.

No Sound

Look for device manager in the control panel to check if you have a sound card, look for an option to check its health. But first if you are not experienced volume might have been set to zero that's the first thing to check, volume icon is on bottom right of screen. right click and open to check volume setting
