Question about Sony VAIO VGC-RB42G PC Desktop

1 Answer

I think my motherboard needs replaced.

My computer is freezing up randomly. In games, on the web, while doing nothing. It is also randomly having problems recognizing usb drives, SD drives, Compact Flash drives, etc. I need to re-boot several times before Windows finally opens up.

Hi

First I would suggest you test all your memory
Heres a program for that
http://www.micro2000.co.uk/products/microscope/MemScope_Free_Memory_Tester.htm

You will need to burn the Iso to a cd, let me know if you need help with that.

Stress your memory for a hour or as long as you wish with this tool and see if errors come up?

You possibly have

  • Faulty memory Or
  • Faulty powersupply Or
  • Faulty motherboard
Theres also bootcd with multiple programs you can use to test your hardware

Why is my computer randomly freezing at east once a day?

Most likely you have swollen capaciters on your motherboard. They are the round barrel components and look at the top of them to see if they are bulging and not flat. If so they need replaced. Or replace your motherboard.
If you think its software download iobits.com free cleaner its a great malware and software program to keep your system running top notch. Also make sure your drivers are up to date. Also uninstall all programs you dont need or use first. Hope this helps.

My computer freezes randomly

Hi Petter,

Does the system freeze when you start the computer.
It could be a program that is causing the system to freeze.

1. You Could disable a few startup items like messanger by going to
Start->run->msconfig and click on startup items and disable all and check if the system's performance is better.

Please refer the following MS article if you need clarification
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

2. If this does not solve your issue, uninstall unused programs in your add/remove programs.

3. Perform a disk cleanup following the steps in the below article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312

This should help you fix the issue, if you still have problems feel free to post.

I have a noise coming from the computer. a buzzing noise.

If it's a high pitch noise, then you've (probably) experienced some instability like random freezing, random shutdown, or the picture gets distorted, then you're definitely going to face a graphics card failure. The solution is to either get a replacement motherboard, or perform a reflow of the graphics chip using a hot air gun.
The best course of action is to just use the laptop while it lasts, and then when it breaks down to do the chip reflow. This is of course, assuming that the computer is out of warranty. If it's still under warranty, back up your data, and send it off to a HP repair center and insist that they replace the motherboard because it suffers from a graphics chip failure. You can also tell them about the hissing noise and about your (probable) sudden freezeups of the laptop while playing a game or a movie.

If this post was helpful please vote with a Thumb Up. This helps me keep on helping others. Thanks.

This is a problem with the gpu (graphics chip) the console will need stripping down and new thermal paste applied or the motherboard needs re-balling. sorry but there is no real quick fix for this.
Hope this helps.

try update your VGA drivers in the nvidia support page, or using software "drivers detective" or etc.
if its not work, u have to check your video card, maybe overheat..
or u can try to format your OS, it can be some support files are missing or corrupted....
or the last one, your VGA card is broken or maybe does not compatible with the motherboard u used...check the specification of it, whether the game, VGA, or motherboard u used
