Gx620 boots up, then screen goes blank, reboot gives blank screen with cursor blinking. will boot with cd but still shuts down after a minute or two.

Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

Worked fine last night, discovered it this morning still turned on but no signal to monitor. Rebooted and it began a consistent beeping with no signal to monitor. Unplugged several times to no avail....

the beeping is coming from the cpu.

1 unplug pc
2 pull out ram chips
3 use an eraser to clean the gold, yes thats gold

what happens is the gold on the ram oxidizes and does not connect properly and can go bad but cleaning it with an eraser sometimes works. take a cpu that is working unplu it pull the ram and you will see the same thing your other pc is doing.

4 reinstall ram (correctly)
5 boot up cpu
6 please vote.

When powering up the computer I sometimes get an error code 271 check date and time.

If the pc boots - in the lower right systems tray - there is time displayed - - change that time to the correct time AND day - -if the pc doesn't boot - - DO a reboot - and as right after you turn the machine on - tap DELETE -- don't worry it won't delete anything - - -once you do that [ it may take 2-3 even 4 or 5 tries - you will end up in the BIOS - see the time? Top one - first page - set the time to the correct time and DATE -- then select - save changes - reboot and you will good to go.

On boot up the emachine now beeps every 5 seconds

Reboot with "F8" held down.
you are only booting to bios and minimum disk software. This may give you an indication of your monitor or video driver status.

If you can borrow another monitor from someone, that would confirm your monitors status....

Acer M3100 crashed

I'd suggest there is a possible hardware error. You need to get into the bios and check the temperatures they'll be under 'system health' or similar. Also might be worth running a ram check. Download 'windiag' it's a microsoft program designed to check your ram and it is very good.

CHKDSK

you must have had a system crash, windows automatically checks for bad sectors and corrupted files the next time you boot up.

Allow it to run because it will repair any bad sectors, after that it will not run again on start up.
