Question about Ace Hardware BRASSCRAFT 45458 "ACE" DUAL-FLO SHOWER DIVERTER VALVE

Shower diverter problem

My shower was leaking water through the faucet (just a small stream), so I decided to replace the washer in the diverter. The washer was pretty shot. After replacing it, the water works fine through the faucet, but when I turn it to the shower I got nothing. I losened the packing nut (? the outer nut on the diverter) and I got a little dribble out of the shower. This diverter sends water to the faucet when the handle is turned to the right and closing the valve and allows water to flow out of the valve when turned to the left (to the shower).

Any ideas why this would work before I replaced the washer, but not now? I replaced the washer with the same number thatt was on the old washer.

It is very possible that a piece of rubber from the old washer or some debris has found its way into the shower diverter or the showerhead. The first thing to try, is to take off the showerhead and see if you get water without it. If you get water then your problem is solved!!! Puchase a new showerhead or take apart the old one and soak it in CLR or Lime-Away to clean it. If that doesn't do the trick than, Turn off your water supply to hot and cold. Remove the diverter (if possible) and inspect for debris. If you want you can also take out the hot and cold stems for a total inspection of the inside of the faucet. You can then flush out the inside of the faucet cavity with a Turkey Baster or something to that effect. Put it all back together ( use a bit of vasaline on all the rubber washers so they do not get stressed when re-installing) and you should be able to take a shower.....Also, if it was a cartridge you replaced, you may have inserted it 180 degrees opposite......Hope this helps.....Joe

How do I determine the model number of Speakman Shower faucet?

Before replacing parts, check the diverter for corrosion that prevents free operation.

Write down the type and model of faucet you have. Most hardware stores have rebuild kits for faucets.( washers, rubber o-rings and or gaskets) You will have to turn your water off and do some minor repairs.
The kits come with step by step directions.

I installed a single lever shower unit when water is turned on i water out of spout and shower head . i took it a part all washers look good and doubled checked unit was put on right to water lines

You should also have a diverter in the spout. Just turn the old spout off and turn the diverter spout on. You lift the ball on top to use the shower.

Installed a new moen adler tub faucet with shower diverter. When you turn on the shower water continues to come out of the tub faucet. Is there an adjustment or is it just the way it is??

Our Moen always dribbled a little since the diverter is metal-to-metal and doesn't really have any seal. The loss shouldn't be a stream though.

Leaking shower head

Not unless you had a backward plumber , If the diverter at the faucet is open for tub, then no water will go up the shower, The shower may hold enough water up there to make it look like a drip, Even if the valve was leaking all the time, it would not go up, it would come out the faucet. It only works with pressure. Unless the valve was plumbed wrong,,, Hope this helps.

Installed a new 88976 handle but still have a leak

replacing just the handle cannot fix the leak and common sense should tell you that.... try turning off the water to the diverter (thru access panel on opposit wall or main water valve for the home) and then replacing the stem or cartridge inside the diverter -- this is what controls water temp, pressure, and is responsible for any leaks you may have...
