17 yr. old 35" RCA loses color intermittently. Picture & sound ok
RCA model # G35311CK 35" picture tube tv is 17 years old. Works fine but recently the color started to flicker & fade to black & white. It's getting worse now. Stays black & white more often. The picture quality is fine & audio is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Three guns Red Blue and Green in the picture tube of an old CRT set. If one of the guns goes out it effects that color. Sounds like one of the guns inside of the tube is going out, To costly to replace for such an old antilog set that will have to have a convertor box next month anyway.

Had the same problem. With mine the other day you probably moved your Playstation 3 too another tv and set your 1080i,720,480 to high deaf on settings in Playstation. You have to change them back to automatic that TV says HDTV but it only plays Playstation 3 on 480 checked in settings of Playstation. Played mine for 4 years on that TV moved and got a 3d wifi then dad got him one And was going to trash that RCA but I told him I would take it for now too keep from buying another TV at this time got it in my new home wouldn't play video but it. would sound tried different cables but still now change. But remembered i changed all of my settings over when I got 3D TV. Playstation 3 hadn't been on know other TV. Since I owned it but that RCA now won't work then came to me last night and playing it on both TVs but you have to change the settings on it before moving it or you cant see the screen to fix it do that guarantee it will fix it. Like you said everything else works PS 1,PS 2,DVD, cable, but PS 3 won't its the settings in theme, and audio.
You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..And check if your facing when playing DVD ...
Tv turn on,this happen.Make a fist bang on the tv frame, see if tv have a picture come back or have it flashes in and out?Yes,than tv is having cold soldering joints on the video board pins that connections to between video board and the CRT-(tv tube) those joints connections pins on the video board are to make the CRT-(tv tube) to have a picture.U have all the tools like a soldering iron,a roll of solder and also can u do basic soldering work?Yes,take the tv aparts. The video board, that the the board that connected to the CRT-(tv tube).Resodering all the soldering joints connections pins between CRT-(tv tube) and video board should solved this problems.Or tvs shops can do those resoldering for u,by telling them the problems. It should cost u like around $50.
If your TV is a old picture tube technology type try the following.
The following is for technical experts only It is EHT cable contact problem. Switch off TV. Remove all electrical wire connections including antenna cable etc.
Wait for few hours! Open the back cover. You will find a thick red colored cable connected to the picture tube through a suction rubber cup. Ease the rubber and slightly rotate it. Very little only. This will establish a new contact in the picture tube shell. Place the rubber cup in the same way. This just a suction cup and hugs the picture body and air tight.
Now switch ON try. If OK leave it. If not try the same way of waiting.
Failing to observe the cooling period, You are likely to get High Voltage electric shock as picture tube acts as a storage current for few hours. ( Even switch is OFF )
Sounds like the vert output is defective. In this model i dont remember if its an IC or transistors. Also check the b+ resistor and cap comming off the flyback transformer as it will begin with the same parts seris #s that the vert output does. If your not an electronic troublkeshooter your gonna have to decide if you have gotten your moneys worth out of it and buy a new one or if you wanna keep patching it as It will continue to have falures in the next months to come or years to come as a 9 year old set is an old set in these parts. Now there are areas in the world where a new tv would take a years salary so peeps do have them repaired. Its all up to you. Good Luck
