How to hook up a subwoofer to my computer?

Hi there,I was wondering if I could hook up a subwoofer to my pc without an amp. I have the subwoofer, but it needs the two cables that you stick inside of it. Black and green. Like, it's not a subwoofer that you just buy and plug into your computer.

It's one of the ones where you have to get a wire, and cut off the end of it, and strip it down to the metal part, or the copper (Whichever) And lift a little lever to stick the cable inside of the subwoofer.

When other sound systems, all of the speakers hook up to the woofer, and the subwoofer has the power cable, and the green, pink, and black cables that plug into the back of your pc.

This system came with a dvd player, it's a 5.1 system, but all cables are the stripped down ones that hook up into the dvd player seperately.

I was hoping if there was some sort of pieces to convert it into a normal audio cable so I can plug it into the back of my pc?

Thank you for your help (p.s, I just want the subwoofer plugged into my pc, I already have a 5.1, 2.1, and a 2.0 hooked up. I only want the extra woofer)

yes the same problem with a dell e520 i have a hifi Yamaha sub woofer have the right connection lead

    where the confusion starts is

one can one do it i have two options on the sound card the first is the five speaker options. To me this is not clear because on the back of the Dell there is 6 female sockets the green one which is the normal one for sound in the middle and orange one underneath and another orange one to the right of the green left of the green in turquoise left and right underneath are green and Black. I assume that one use the two centre holes above and below am i right? if so im getting no sound to the Yamaha

Do we have to reboot the computer each time we try a sound socket.

You should always wire your amp directly to your battery. and an inline fuse of about 100 amp. about 3-5 feet from the battery.

Hi, I'm wondering what the (blue/white) P.Cntr wire hooks up to??

it's a power control line, it comes on when the amp does and would go to the REMOTE input on a power amp.

How to hookup

hi,
if u want to hook up the sub with ur av receiver the connect the sub woofer output of ur AVR to any one (left or right) input of ur sub woofer. then connect its power . set the frequency range between 90 and 120Hz. set the volume of sub woofer to 40% of its total. also check the av receives speaker setting. goto speaker setup and make ON the sub woofer out.

if want to connect the sub to a stereo amp without sub out. then connect the amps speaker line to the speaker input of sub woofer and connect the speaker out of sub to left and right speaker ( make sure to connect the red to red and black to black). set the volume and frequency as above
ok

Is it possible to hook the infinity bu-1 subwoofer to a home theater system where the subwoofer output is straight power say it"s like 25 watts coming out of that one channel and before the original...

In general higher speaker impedance is safer than lower impedance for the amp. Don't expect anything impressive re: audio output from a passive (unpowered) sub if your HTS says it pushes only 25 watts. Without frequency bandwidth and distortion noted the spec is virtually useless as a comparison.

The BU-1 is a powered sub that accepts either RCA Line Level or HIGH LEVEL amplifier power. If you use the latter, impedance is a non-issue because the input feeds the BU-1's internal amp, not the speaker directly. You should be okay.

Perhaps if we knew some specifics about the HTS we could do more than guess.

Factory subwoofer 2005 subaru, the after market head unit I got dont have the connectors for it.

try to get a "speakerwire to rca cable" connector. hook it into your back speaker wire and run your amp off of that. then hook the sub up to the amp as usual. without an amp, just splice into your closest speaker wire

I have a 12" subwoofer and i was wanting to know how to hook it up with out a amp or if you can even do that

They need alot of power to get sound out of them. If you hooked it up straight to the radio without an amp, you would barely hear it.

Sony sa-w305

Hi bob,
yes I have the active subwoofer book, SA-W305 1998

If you let me have an e-mail address, I will scan and send you copies (8 pages) regards Brian.

P.S. I have been using the unit on its own, just connected to my new tv, and the bass improvment is fantastic.

I had to have the amp TA-VE150 repaired,by having the IC joints resoldered, due to overheating.

Need to know

I'm assuming that you have an amp that you are installing these to. Its always tricky installing subs of different impedances. Do you have the model number of the amp that you are hooking them up to.
Most likely if you have a 2 channel amp, you would connect one sub to each channel as most amps can handle a 2ohm load in stereo, but don't bridge the amp with these two subwoofers without specific instruction from someone with experience as you will most likely overlad the amp. If you can be more specific with your set-up I'd be able to assist you more.
