Wireless security not working on my D-Link DIR-655

Dear All,

I am trying to use my new D-Link DIR-655 router with an IBM ThinkPad
T42 laptop (running Win XP SP3), which is about 4 years old now. The
laptop currently has an internal Intel BG2200 and an "external" D-Link
DWA-652 network cards. I updated the driver for the former card and
the latter is brand new. With both cards I get exactly the same
problem: If I make my wireless network completely unsecured, the
laptop can connect to it with no problems. However, if I set up any
kind of security (WEP, WPA, WPA2 or WPA/WPA2) the laptop
hangs at "acquiring network address" and never actually becomes
"connected." I am running firmware 1.21. Any clues on what is
going on?

THX,

Serge

Well, that is of no help at all. The D-Link card is removable and when
it is not present the problem remains. And would you envision
IBM/Lenovo coming and installing a new "internal" card for my
laptop? BTW: isn't that exactly what I already did with a D-Link new
    card?

I have the same setup with no problems at all. Suggest you go through your router config. If you need some assistance, feel free to email me.

- Log on to the configuration page of the router
- Go to Manual Wireless Network Setup
- And Change the Channel width to different one

You do not need two wirless cards for the same computer if it has a bilt in one use that one or you can have the computer manafacser come and install a newer one for you.

My dlink dir-655 lose connections every few minutes, no idea why? Can someone help??

This could be because of the security settings not being compatible with the unit trying to obtain an IP address.

I would suggest taking the wireless security off completely to see if the problem perssist and try using the highest security possible.

Good Luck

Hi,

Please ensure that you are tying in the correct password (WEP Key)

I suspect that there could be an issue with the 0 (Number) and O (Alphabet) while you are typing it in.

You could log into the router and go to Wireless settings then change the password to one of your choice.

If this doesn't work for you, please comment and let me know, and I will be happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.

I will appreciate your feedback and positive rating for this solution.
Thank you.

I have the same D-Link Wireless Router and I can't say that I have run into this before.
Mine seemed to work from day one without any problems. I also purchased the D-Link adapter cards for a laptop and for my desktop that are located in other rooms.

Maybe, try a different version of IE to get it to access. I don't use Firefox, that much, so I didn't notice that firefox worked better or worse on my WiFi network.

Maybe try to shut off the broadband modem and the wifi router and the computer and then reboot all three to make sure that that's not the problem.

Also try to reset the router.

Good luck on figuring this one out.

Usually this is caused because the security settings on the laptop or PC do not match what is setup on the wireless router. Login to the wireless router and look at what is setup for security, WPA, WPA_PSK, etc, also the passphrase, it is case sensitive. The setup on your laptop must match.
