Question about Sony Computers & Internet

Open Question

My AKAI midi controllers are no longer working.

I am using an AKAI APC40 midi controller with Ableton Live 8 Suite. When I first got my Sony Vaio everything worked fine. Then my midi controller stopped working. I recently got an AKAI MPK49 midi control keyboard to go with the APC40 and I am having the same issue with a brand new piece of gear. In the preferences window when I set up the midi for the controllers, all the lettering shows up in red. It should be in black. I have contacted AKAI and Ableton tech support and searched the forums for answers to this problem and have received little help with this issue. The best I have been able to narrow it down to is a driver issue with the internal camera. One of the drivers needed for my midi controllers to function properly is being used by my on board video camera. Logitech Video cameras will cause this same problem, but I've never connected a Logitech USB camera to this computer.

Assuming you have enabed audio in the camera and Live software, there may be a problem with Windows Live, so uninstall and re install to try again. If you have a limited amount of memory and are running other programmes, that can cause the programme to freeze up. Make sure that Windows Live is allowed in your firewall programmes and antivirus programmes, as they may stop you from conferencing. Last of all, we can assume the person you are speaking to has not got the volume muted or too low in your video box, which can happen at times, or the problem is with that persons programme and not your's.

Oxygen 49 midi controller switches itself off when pressing "record" button on Ableton Live

Make sure only the midi input is set, not the output, and that the channel your using is armed. Otherwise the signal won't get through in record mode.

Weird midi

A few things to try:
1) if your oxygen is connected using a midi cable instead of a usb cable it could be that the midi cable is damaged.
2) you may want to try changing the preset of your oxygen: use the buttons on the oxygen, near the two digits led, to selelct a program between 01 and 15, this will change the values assigned to the knobs
3) you may have some kind of midi loop going on, try going to the preferences in ableton and disable all midi controllers (remote, sync, track) both in and out; then enable only the oxygen for track IN and remote IN which is actually all that you need.

Akai apc 40 is squeaking when turning on. the squeak changes in order how many LED are on. is not the power suppyl. it comes direct from the power plug in just next to the usb port...

You may have a zener diode failing, or just plain noisy on the power input board. If you are not using the original power supply, this may be why- the voltage may be a little higher than the design planned for.

If you open up the unit you may hear the noisy component with a drumstick held to one ear with the other end touching ecah component in turn until you find the most noisy component- then replace it.

Apc 40 squeak

It could be feedback, it could be inductive noise. Try different cables because a shield wire may be brokin in the set you are using currently.

The AKAI MPD18 is just a MIDI controller, you'll have to have some type of software ; such as GURU, MOTU BPM or Ableton Live to use it. Give me more info on the software interface you are trying to use with this controller.

HI there I'm using a Korg synth with my M audiophile and I have a latency problem, I can access the usb control panel but it doesn't let me change the latency or sample rates can anyone help

the latency is in the sound card.
usually you can set the CPU cache to 512 in a program or synthesizer.
Your Korg softwear may be able to ajust this if it is on your pc. Most PC have the sound card built into the mother board thereby not cutting the performance.
2. You will have to purchase a external sound card for your Audio and midi interface to get the least amount of latency.
The PC cabinet with all it components has a lot of EMI (Electromagnetic interference) that cause some of the latency issues with these device. If you can live with 2ms latency which the human ear can't determine then you can render a acceptable audio and midi setup, The Ableton Live 8 series has a latency setting for the CPU in the program. Download the demo and see if you notice a difference.
