Sounds like a software problem. Do you have a backup of the software? This can sometimes happen when you install updates. If no backup of the software then you need to contact the manufacturer or find someone wih the same software to back your up.
There were a few different versions of the Nextar M3 - here is a link to the manual for the regular M3, but you may need to peruse Nextar's website if you have a different variant. Solution #1 is incorrect. Just bought on of these units at K-Mart the other day. The X3-03 uses NAVTEQ maps, it's even mentioned in the owners manual. Plus there is no CD software that comes with the unit. Plugging the unit into any PC just makes the PC make connect and disconnect alert sounds repeatedly until the unit is unplugged from the USB port. It never even asks where the driver files are.
I to contacted Nextar through email and asked about updates to the unit and maps. This was their response:
