First, pull the temp. sensor and check it with a multi-meter. It should read around 1100 Ohms at room temp. Post back the results.

OK, thats good. You probably have a fried hi-limit thermostat located on the back of the unit. It should read closed for continuity. Here is the part to order in case you find it bad.http://bit.ly/VFoMlt Here is a diagram of the unit. Here is a diagram of the unit. The thermostat is number 16.http://cdn.appliancepartspros.com/images...

Ok. will check. I can hear the relays clicking on and off. does that sound rightr

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Dec 07, 2012

Yes, that sounds about right but the thermostat may be holding it back.

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

Ok Richard its reads 0.00. Can I bypass the thermostat to see if the oven will come on?

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

yeah thats what I mean, then I can order the part if its bad. Thank you!

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

I will let you know something here in a few minutes

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

Ok. It didnt work. The stat controls both ovens. Unpluged neither work. Bypassed the top oven works but the bottom doesnt. It throws a code H3 133./

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

I couldnt see the code while plugging it in, my wife saw it or I would have told you sooner.

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

    H3 133 ( no dot or backslash )

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Dec 08, 2012

That H3 133 display does not appear to be an error code. It looks like a version number for the control board. That control board in the range is designated as an H3 type and the 133 could be the software version for that control board.

  • Alex Simonton Dec 08, 2012

Thanks Richard. H3 is a control, 231.00 worth. I guess AHS will have to replace that one. Thanks for your help-You get 10 stars out of 10!!

  • Alex Simonton Dec 18, 2012

Hello Richard, Sears came out yesterday and did everything you told me to do. I didnt let on that I knew anything. It was the control. So if H3 flashes on the board the control needs to be replaced.Once again thanks for your help.

How do i change the lower heating element in my oven?

74004107 - ELEMENT, BAKE (LOWER)
disconnect unit from power.
remove screws from lower element.
slide old element straight back slowly towards you so the wires follow it through the holes.
as you disconnect the wires from the old element either give them a bit of a bend so they do not slide back through the hole and get lost or immediately hook them onto the new element that you could sit below the old element for transferal of wires.
make sure wires are attached securely and reinstall.
hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

funny same thing just happened to me and it all seams to be the bottom element of the same ovens around the same year, I bought mine in 99 also, I keep my oven very clean becasue i know the dangers it may cause, I think this is a major problem and it needs to be addressed.
