See if there is a part of the roller that makes a crease on teh paper The black line means that sensor on your end sees a mark on the paper and interprets that as a message or a charachter hence turns it into a line

Clean the inside of the printer with a soft rag, be gentle and get as much toner up as you can, also your toner carttridge may be empty or the crum may be bad, start with a fresh toner carttridge and clean the printer out where the cartridge sits.

The small glass surface at the top of the scanner bed had some gunk on it. I scrapped it off and the line went away! Yay!

Brother MFC-6800 1. Prints with 3/8" blank vertical line down the entire page; 2. Prints with a couple of 1/16" blank vertical lines down the entire page; 3. Prints with some gray shadow...

This solution is unconventional but it worked for me. The black roller on my MFC had irregularities on it and was creating horrible printouts. I pulled out the drum and cartridge and cleaned the large black roller. I used furniture polish to make the roller very smooth. Now it prints really nice.

Black line down page when in COPY mode on MFC-240C

You need to poiwer cycle after cleaning as the scanner only calibrates during power up. If all is clean, even the white bar over the small glass assembly, and you power cycle the machine and it's still there, you will need a new scan assembly.
