SOURCE: camshaft timing mark crankshaft timing mark

Belt covers need to be on. Timing mark on crankshaft (while on compression stroke) should line up with TDC mark on cover. then Camshaft mark, needs to line up by looking through access hole of cover, and align mark on cam sprocket with pointer on inside of belt cover.

You have to pull the flywheel off of the crankshaft to see the woodruff key. The key should point up towards the camshaft. there are two marks on the plastic camshaft gear that also must align with the two marks on the housing.

Model 31G777 Need to know what the timing position is for this engine please ,As stated earlier I have it at 3 o clock it wont start . ideas please

Don't waht your trying to with the 3 o'clock position but crank and cam timing marks align with each other.

Instructions from service manual:

Install Crankshaft and Camshaft

1. Lubricate the cylinder bearing/oil seal with engine oil.

2. Install intake and exhaust valve tappets.

3. Support both ends of the crankshaft, and carefully install into the cylinder.
NOTE: The counterbalance system, if equipped, must be assembled to the crankshaft before installing into the cylinder.

4. Assemble connecting rod assembly to crankshaft.

5. Install the timing gear to the crankshaft with timing mark out. The flange of the gear must face the counterweight link, if equipped.

6. Install camshaft, making sure tappets clear cam lobes. Timing marks (A, Figures 6, 7, 8) must align.

7. On horizontal crankshaft engines, make sure the paddle on the governor shaft (B, Figure 6) is rotated in line with the governor cup inside the crankcase cover.

8. On vertical crankshaft engines, assemble governor gear/oil slinger (B, Figures 7 and 8) to camshaft. Make sure the paddle on
the governor shaft is contacting the governor cup (C).

Rebuilding a honda 670 v twin no timing mark on crank gear only cam!how can I time without that crank mark?

I am assuming your working a GX670 twin cylinder small engine.
There should be small dimple on the crankshaft gear. It is 180 degree from the keyway. Note the gear maybe on backwards.
here picture of the Honda setup from one their service bulletins.

Can't find timing marks for crankshaft to replace timing belt.

All Honda engines, except the Civic 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 Vtec's and the CRv 2.0, will have the crankshaft mark that lines up with the gear key way.THESE, engines I noted for you, will have marks 1 - 2 teeth off to the right or left. Find the key way and look in this area for the mark.

Just rebuilding 2001 honda xr 80 and need to know how to set up the timing? Thanks Wayne

Valve timing is done with the piston at Top Dead Center. The cam lobes should be pointing downward. There will be a mark or marks on the cam gear for alignment of the gear. If only one mark, it should be at the top and inline with the centerline of the crankshaft. If two marks, they sholud be parallel with the surface of the cylinder. Any slack in the timing chain should be at the carb side. When the cam gear is in the proper position, rotate the cam slightly to line up the screw holes for mounting. After mounting, remove the spark plug and turn the engine over by hand to be sure the setting is correct. If the crankshaft locks up it is because the piston is hitting a valve. Re-do the cam timing. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Need the rite timing marks for a 1990 honda civic 1.5 engine

On the cam shaft gear there are two "-" marks on either side of the gear along with the word "Up" stamped on the gear. Turn the crankshaft so that the word "up" is on top and line the "-" marks up with the cylender head. On the pulley of the drive shaft there are two seets of marks one set of three that looks like "lll" and one set about an inch to the right of these that looks like "l l" the "l l" needs to be lined up with the timing marks on the lower timing belt cover.
