Hoover makes a neat tool for cleaning the hair and dirt out, its called a "nozzle cleanout tool". You can contact hoover and locate a store near you.

There's got to be a way to take it apart - I think that was what the previous writer was asking, and also what I need to know.

To remove the hood assembly, there are two screws under the bottom and one at the top center. There may be 2 more screws behind the brush assembly, so you will need to remove the brush block as well. Also remove the speed knob for the brushes. If the speed knob does not remove easily, it may be glued on, do not force it. Pull the hood off. Be careful when you remove the front 2 screws that hold the clear or smoke color lens on the bottom of the hood they cab crack the lens. You will now have access to clean the hood in a sink.

How do you remove brushes and clean under the cover?

I too have this machine. On this particular model the brushes are not removable like on the newer versions. You can either purchase a "cleaning wand" from Hoover OR create your own as follows: Simply obtain a pendaflex hanging file folder (legal size) and remove the metal rods. These rods work exactly like the Hoover wand they try to sell you. They are quite flexible and easily slide thru the clear plastic openings at base of cover. The hooked ends work wonders in removing furballs, hair and other debris that gets trapped under the cover.

I believe it is clogged with dog hair...not sucking

Hello. Thanks for choosing Fixya! That dog hair will definitely have to be removed. Pull it out anyway you can, using a tweezer, a pair of needle nose pliers, etc. Also examine all of the hoses and remove any debris that could be adding to the problem. Regards, Joe

My hoover steamvac is no longer sucking and the brush doesn't spin

Assure the ring gasket is in place under the hood. A round rubber gasket must be in place on the round tube under the hood where the recovery tank sits to connect the vacuum from the motor to the round tube on the bottom of the tank.

Why did the brushes stop rotating?

Please check two things:
(1) The shutoff switch on the hood is NOT set to OFF for brush speed.
(2) Remove the red filter panel from under the cleaner, behind the brushes, and clean the hair/debris from the screen filter. Squeeze the two panels together, and pull down to remove from the pocket.

The spin scrubs quit working all of a sudden while i was steam vaccuming my carpet, there is a little dog hair in there but it doesnt look like enough to completely clog it, how do i get them to spin...

(1) Assure the Brush Control on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.
(2) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
(3) Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism.
(4) Remove and clean the intake filter. One the base of the cleaner, behind the brushes, squeeze the two red abs together and pull the panel down to access the screen. Clean the hair/debris off the screen and reassemble.

I had the same problem. Fixed it by taking the machine apart and lubricating the bearing inside the turo tunnell. It's a pain, but not impossible if I could do you can. You must start by taking off the cover. Don't forget the scvrews on the front by the water vacuum. I used WD-49 and white grease so far so good. The turbo tunnel will come out by itself.
