Question about Televison & Video
I just got this TV on black Friday and just hooked it up. It worked just fine. I had to leave for class so i pushed the power button on my remote and the TV went off. I came back from class and tried to turn the TV on. The light indicator flashed red a few times and then you hear a 1 second snippet of what was on the TV and then it shuts off. I tried different outlets, i tried different power sticks, i held the power button, and i disconnected everything and let it sit for a while hoping it would reset but nothing happened. What could possibly be the problem with it when i just took it out of the box? Why doesn't it come out of standby mode when i push the button?
It clearly has a problem not allowing it to come on---the set has a warranty---take it back and either get an exchange---Most major stores will exchange in first 30 days for any reason---if they give you the "it has to go for repair," demand a refund on the spot.
Frankly Emerson is not a very good quality brand and parts and support are nearly zero.

Hi, If all else fails, try do a hard reset. You can verify from your manual, but in some units, this is merely unplugging the unit from mains for a couple of hours. Try again, if it still shows error codes (blinking lights) you probably have to seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

Hi, I own the same TV and had the same problem. It's the #1 plaguing issue with flat panel TVs made by Funai corp. Emerson is made by them. Normally, when this happens, the TV goes into " Protection Mode " because of a failing circuit board.
The most common thing to go out on flat panel TV is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board. But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptom. I'm willing to bet you have the same problem like mine. One of six Inverter Transformers when bad on my Power/Backlight Inverter Supply Board. I replaced it and it works fine again.
You have a few choices:
1. You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
2. If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual at Tvtechcenter.com: http://www.tvtechcenter.com/xcart/search.php?mode=search&page=1 It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $6. And most cases the new part cost less than $15.
3. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV.
