Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Compaq Presario pops up a system boot menu everytime at startup.

During computer startup, system shows red/white Compaq logo screen. I can hit F1 for setup or F10 for system recovery. I hit ESC, and it shows the main BIOS/Video screen, mouse initialized, etc. Right after that screen, a boot menu appears, prompting me to select Hard Drive, DVD-RW Drive, Floppy, or Network. I select Hard Drive and computer boots as normal. Just looking for a simple fix to this issue. I've scanned for malware, done a defrag, and even changed the CMOS battery. Any help would be appreciated.

This comes up mostly when it requires a BIOS save. Try that. If that does not help, sometimes setting the default settings and saving will help.

What is a BIOS save? I have entered the setup screen at boot up and reset it to default settings, this didn't help. My bios is dated 2003. Does that make a difference?

SOURCE: strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility

Got to BIOS by pressing F2,check or any floppy setting and disable it even in boot order setup. This will solve your problem otherwise replace the lithium CMOS battery.

As you have reset the BIOS setting to it's default setting.Floppy drive is enable by default whether your system have a physical floppy drive or not.

Why won't my compaq presario 1250 load windows?

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.

2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

I have a compax presario SR1820 nx tower/desktop i bought from ebay it worked fine until i clicked some sort of windows update and it forze so i restarted it and now its stuck on some red compaq logo with...

Unplug the Power Cord from the PC, then press and hold the [power] button for 5-seconds.

Re-connect the Power cord and try it again.

If that fails, then you will need to try a local tech for diagnostic tests.
It is failing during the loading of Drivers....and the screen is red, so make sure that the Video cable is secure at both ends.

Are you sure that F8 during boot is not working ? This takes you to the Advanced Boot Options Menu....and you can try to boot in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking....or Last Known Good Configuration.

Compaq Presario SR12320M will not boot up Help

    • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
    • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
  1. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer does not include Startup Repair as a preinstalled recovery option.)
  2. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
  3. Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.
  4. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem and, if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs. This should solve your problem

PRESARIO 700 ERROR ON BOOT Hello! Every time when I switch on my presario 700, on the screen show: ERROR PCI on motherboard, device 09, F1(boot) and F10 (setup). OS is XP pro. What is wrong?

If you know how to set up the bios hit f1, if not hit f10, it will boot up and you will need to reset the time and date as they will be wrong. The PCI error refers to a PCI slot, which for some reason isn't functioning properlly. If you run the disk with your motherboard settings that may have come with your motherboard it may just be a driver. If you hit f1 then you will be in the Bios screen. There the keyboard is used to navigate. The mouse won't work, Arrow keys for up down and side to side, and the escape key to get out of a menu or menu item, and enter to select an item. So on the first screen, you will need to adjust the date, time, and year. each time you do this you must hit enter to proceed to the next item. once you get all of the settings right hit f 10, and enter to reboot. So I gave you both ways. If you still have the problem, check the cards that are in your motherboard, there may be a loose one, also try to pop out the battery inside the case, not the laptop battery, if it continues to happen, you may have to pop that little battery that controls the settings for startup, it will reset your saved motherboard startup settings, and once in a while the battery may be bad, which can also cause the kind of problem you describe.

Monitor goes blank after seeing XP during boot up.

did u replace the video card with the same kind of model ? i guess yes ... when system starts hit the f8 key and than go in to safe mode ... mouse wont work so use arrow on the keyboard .. and in the safe mode just log in to admin account if available or login to ur account and see if that still happens .. and if it doesnt ... remove the drivers for the graphic card from add and remove programs and restart the system and go in the normal mode and than install the drivers again ... and if the display disappears in the safe mode or u have install a different graphic card than ... reseat the memory cards and that should resolve the issue .... if that doesnt work out when the system starts hit f1 and stay on the BIOS screen for 30 mins if the system doesnt loose display than u need to reinstall OS ... that will surely work out ... the resolutions given above if u follow them correctly u will have a working system in no time

Trying to reformat my PC but can't get into BIOS set up.

Hey,

Seems the screen is slow to start up, right after pressing the power button, keep tapping on f1 or f10 untill the bios screen or something else comes up. that will definitely get you into the bios and dont mind if the computer starts to beep, slow down a little and keep tapping.

Thanks,
Ekse
