Question about Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNQ 25.6 Cu. Ft. Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator w/ In-Door-Ice Ice Dispensi...

1 Answer

Report abuse posted by OG on Jan 12, 2009 My Whirlpool Conquest 25.55 cu. ft. Model # GS6SHAXLQ01 is about 7 years old. I left it on when I was out for 4 weeks. In my absence there was a 15 hour power failure. On return I found that although the lights and the sound of the motor running are OK, but it is NOT cooling and also NOT making ice. I emptied and cleaned it throroughly. I also vaccumed the condensor coils behind the front grill at the bottom. It was very dirty. Then I started the refrigerator again but it is still NOT cooling even after 6 hours of running even though the lights are ON and the sound of the refrigerator running seems normal. Ice is NOT forming but water does flow out of the dispenser. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

Thanks for your quick response. As far as I can make out the fan inside the freezer compartment is working. The fan at the rear bootom was relaced 5 -6 months back and I think that also is working. The water is flowing out from the dispenser. BUT THERE IS NO COOLING.

  • OG Jan 12, 2009

Thanks again. I removed the hard board cover. The compressor is slightly warm but there is NO sound coming from it. Seems it is NOT running. The fan on its right rear at the bottom is however running. The copper pipes from the compressor are neither hot nor cold.

Thanks a lot Ken. I am NOT sure if I can locate the relay. There is WHITE 3 inch x 2 inch ceramic or plastic part attached to the LEFT side of the compressor. It has TWO wires coming to it - one is a BLUE wire with a copper color ending. The other is a WHITE wire with a BLACK colored ending. I have unhinged the copper colored ending. Before I unhinge the BLACK colored ending I just wanted to make sure that I am not making a mistake. THANKS A LOT for your Help and guidance.

Hello Ken Thanks a Ton. I have pried out the 3 inchx 3inch x 2inch part which was attached to the LEFT side of the compressor - BUT IT IS CREAMISH YELLOW in color. Is this the RELAY? There is another BLACK component aboUt 3 inch x 4 inch towards thE back side of the compressor which is bolted to the floor of the refrigerator. The BLUE and WHITE wires were attached to its top. My doubt is whether that BLACK component is the relay since you had earlier mentioned that the relay is BLACK or is it the WHITE one.. However the WHITE component which I have pried out had FOUR wires going into it and had has three sockets into which the three pins on the compressor wall go in. It has the words "4SP" embossed on it and below it smaller numbers "4SP1001" and "2212194" and below it "14 F02R". If this is the relay then I will take it along to get its replacement. SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS - BUT I HAVE LITTLE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THESE THINGS AND I DO WANT TO SAVE SOME MONEY IN GETTING THE REPAIRS DONE.

Can you tell if the compressor is on might have to remove the back cover on the back side of the frig. It is a card board cover.

Are both fans running the one inside the freezer compartment and the one down by the compressor?

You have a relay on the compressor called a PTC relay. That little guy is bad. Make note of the wires and where they go. Take the relay and make and model number to a appliance repair house and get a new one. To remove the relay you have to remove the wire retainer clip and take off black cover then pry off the little relay they are on snuggly just pull straight off. let me know if I can help any more. ken

Yeah your on the right track. When you pull the PTC relay off flip it over and look inside you will see that it got over heated. Should be able to see it very easy. ken here in Kansas

Yes that is the relay the other device is a capacitor. But the three prongs you described tells me that you got the right part. Make sure the wires are put in the right place when you get the new relay. And just in case they don't have the relay you can get a 3 in 1 relay. Also for info need make and model number when you go and get one. Some relay's are black some are white so color is one thing I should have left off. So not to confuse anyone. Talk to you some other time. And thanks for the rating as helpful. ken
