Those depending on the set are COMPONENT, SIMPLY: y IS video, the other two are blue and red chroma with video---they are used depending on how marked and the set for COMPONENT type inputs and or HD inputs.

Some sets they are HD and others they are not---if HD they will also be marked 1080 etc.

If you have an issue or need help let me know.

SOURCE: connection for y pb pr cables

The color-coding used for the RCA connectors is nearly universal:

  • composite video - yellow
  • audio - red (right channel) and white (left channel)
  • component video - green (Y), blue (Pb) and red (Pr)
Also, these jacks are normally labeled in print as well, although it's sometimes hard to read the text on some equipment.

Match the connectors on your converter box to the corresponding connectors on the TV. If your converter box was one purchased with the $40 US Government coupon, it may not have the component video outputs. The only coupon-eligible boxes are the most basic models, and they sometimes have only RF (channel 3 or 4) and composite video outputs available.

I have a RTD317W Home Theater and have a couple of problems. I am using componet video jacks/cables (Pr, Pb Y) to connect the sytem to my TV. When I use the DVD player, it only plays in balck & white....

Make sure your Pr, Pb Y cables are all good and connect identically-labeled ports to each other.

Placement of the sub near walls or room boundaries will greatly affect its response. Experiment with its placement.

I have no signal with the video component (Y, Pb and Pr)

You may have to set-up the DVD player for component (Y,Pb,Pr) output instead of S-video. You may have to set DVD player to progressive-scan or 720p or 1080 video out, also.

Y/Pb/Pr outputs are green; needs

There is no calibration for the component video that I know of, check your cables you may have a bad Pr cable or the Pr/Pb ones may be mixed up.

Y (the green one) is for luminance, plug in ONLY this connector and you should see a black and white picture.

Now connect the Pr. You will now see red tones.

Now connect the Pb. And you will see blue tones.

Reverse the Pr and Pb and see what happens.

Oh and make sure you don't accidently have one plugged into a composite video or digital audio port.

Still not looking right?

Go into the input menu of the TV and change the component (or colourstream) input from RGB to Y/Pr/Pb. (most TVs do not have this feature.

Hope this helps!

Can an adapter be used to connect this unit to a sony hd ready tv. The sony has the round connector for hook up and not the square type. I want to hook up a DCT 3400 Series High-Definition DVR

If your Sony TV is hd ready you have a number of choices of connections you can use. On the back of the DCT 3400 you have regular AUDIO and VIDEO connections, the separate Y, Pb, & Pr connections (both of these use the regular RCA style connectors), RF in (which uses the standard cable connection), and the HDMI connector, which uses a special flat ribbon style connector. Your Sony should have all of these types of connectors on the back of the TV. The separate Y, Pb, & Pr, or HDMI connectors will give you the best picture.

DVD won't play movies in color

RCA cable connectors (red, white, yellow) are usually for an analog setup. You could still use these for "component" setup, but know the difference with color stamps as follows:

Component color stamps are "blue, green, red" ( blue is marked Pb, green is marked Y, red is marked Pr)

RCA color stamps your using are "red, white, yellow"

Here are the proper hook up method for "Component" using your "RCA" connectors:

On both the TV and DVD component setup:

Plug the red RCA fitting in the component port marked "Pr (red)

Plug the white RCA fitting in the component port marked "Pb (blue)

Plug the yellow RCA fitting in the component port marked "Y (green)

Be sure this setup is the same for the TV's component input ports, and the DVD's component output ports.

i-Note:

For optimum picture quality you may want to purchase component cables as the gage is thicker giving better impedance match resulting in better picture and sound quality.

Monster Component Cable labled Y/Cb/CR to TV that has Input Y/Pb/Pr

Y PB PR is the analog version of the Y CB CR color space; the two are numerically equivalent, but Y PB PR is designed for use in analog systems whereas Y CB CR is intended for digital video.
