How do I connect my Jandy AE-TI heat pump to my intermatic T104P3

My Jandy Manual shows two closed loop connections to the pump time clock from the maintain temp relay. I need more specific wiring diagrams or specifications.

Thank you Gene. I also assumed the load would be connected to the pump, but the diagram as you noted (6) the load is shown going to the "pump time clock". Closed loop is not only confusing but I think incorrect. In your diagram form (1), I assume that the Auto-Heat Contactor is what Jandy identifies as the Main Temp Relay. This explains Jandy's Auto-Heat mode (LED display). But how does the Jandy Pool mode (LED display) restrict the AE-TI heat pump to heating when only the filtration system is running?

I am timer expert, and very familar with voltages and contactors. The AE-TI is a new item for me today, and not my expertise. (1) Looking at Jandy wiring diagram ... I focused on words "Line' and 'Load' since these are universal notation in timer manuals. (2) Is the link to product manual identical to your manual? (3) How does Jandy know that heat pump should only turn ON when pump is ON? I don't know how it interfaces with the timer schedule? That seems confusing to me why you would need a T104 timer supplying power to that contactor, since the timer could be OFF all day, but heat pump turns ON the contactor.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

Let me think about this for a few minutes....

  • Joseph Zebrook Dec 05, 2012

Gene, I continue to think about this problem. Initially the Jandy wiring diagram in the Jandy Heat Pumps, Model AE-TI, Installation and Operations Manual seemingly had a confusing closed loop, but wouldn't Jandy have corrected that in one of their addendums? Assuming they would have done so leands to the inference that the Jandy wiring diagram is correct. Let's assume that it is. Then the following is a possibility. The T104 Clock Motor has two white leads connected to T104 Timer Terminals 1 & 3. These could be disconnected and lead as L1 & L2 to the Jandy Auto Heat Contactor diagram you supplied in your solution, step one. The outputs from the Auto-Heat Contactor labeled Load 1 & 2 to the Pump then could lead back to T104 Timer Terminals 1 & 3.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

Review timer functions: The clock motor must receive power at all times, or the timer is non-functioning because the dial does not rotate, and trippers do not move on-off lever back and forth. And then there is no time schedule.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

Read above, and then new comment here: What is purpose of T104 timer? Isn't the Jandy digital controller a full-functioning scheduler? The controller appears to be complex version of ordinary Deihl timer adapted to many different applications in pool/spa industry. If the Jandy controls the contactor to pump, why is the T104 timer needed? Maybe the T104 is a back-up. I'm still thinking.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

3rd comment. Wait a moment. The jandy digital controller is NOT a timer. It is a thermostat. Page 18 manual, #3 says; the heat pump will overrid the timer. Let me figure out the wiring for that.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

Disregard all above: Here is correct wiring diagram for thermostat override on timer:http://waterheatertimer.org/images/T104-... Wire it as shown is identical to how other thermostats by-pass T100 series timers and turn on heater when temperature drops below set point.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 05, 2012

    * identical to how they turn on pump (not turn on heater)

Gene, I really appreciate your help. I initially had an electrician come out and set up the wiring from the main breaker panel to my pool subpanel. On the main panel he added a 100A breaker to feed the pool subpanel. The existing pool subpanel has a 15A breaker for the pool light and a 20A breaker for the pool pump/timer. His plan was to add an additiona 50A breaker to for the Jandy Heat Pump. On Jandy AE-TI Installation and Operation Manual, Page 14, Figure 8, there is shown a Main Contactor with inputs L1 & L2 (see attached figure). I assume his plan was to power the Main Contactor, L1 & L2 with the 50A breaker. Again I really appreciate your help, especially since the electrician I hired hasn't come back to finish the job; though I've called him several times. I don'tplan to do the wiring myself, but I want to be sure that these so called certified electricians know what they are doing. I want to be smart enough to ask questions and understand the answers.

  • Joseph Zebrook Dec 05, 2012

Gene, I'm having trouble posting the figure.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 06, 2012

Trouble loading the wiring image? Open link, and press Crtl+F5 to refesh page:http://waterheatertimer.org/images/T104-... I am formulating response to question about circuit breakers. If you have internatic control panel, then maximum circuit breaker size is 15 amp. You would use 14 gauge wire with 15 amp breaker. So the new 50 amp breaker for Jand will have to come from main panel of subpanel:http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-insta... Let me know if you can load image. If I post image on fixya, then they own it, and the resolution is very low. Let me know.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 06, 2012

Would you tell me the model number of Intermatic panel that you have so I can look up specs on that breaker panel. My understanding is that these panels have maximum 15 amp breaker. I need to check that. For some reason my information does not sound correct. However if it is correct, then adding 50 amp breaker into Intermatic panel is not right. Let me check this information through Intermatic.

  • Gene Haynes Dec 06, 2012

Electrician added 100 amp breaker to feed pool panel. Did he install size 1/0 wire?http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Max-w...

  • Joseph Zebrook Dec 06, 2012

Yes, he installed the correct size wire. Thanks for all your help. The problem is solved.

1) Copy following link for wiring illustration ... assuming timer is supposed to control pool pump:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/T104-to-contactor.jpg

2) T104P is 240Volt (208-277V) SPDT timer in P plastic outdoor enclosure.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T104

3) Jandy AE-TI is 208/230V pool heater.
http://www.bestbuypoolsupply.com/media/aemanual.pdf

4) Page 13 of Jandy manual shows single-phase residential wiring diagram.

5) First of all, power to main contactor is not interruped by timer, since this powers 24Volt transformer that controls the chip board and general operation.

6) The timer is connected to 'Auto-heat contactor.'
The confusion is what Load connects to this contactor? The water pump? Load is shown on diagram as 'pump time clock.'
I assume the load is the PUMP??

I believe the number you gave is fir the 14 day timer. Here is a link to the manual for it. Notice the not to use only one silver pin.

SOURCE: I need contact points for Intermatic #ML300RTW or

ML300 is a Power Pack for outdoor lighting

A search of Intermatic site shows they no longer sell the product
Malibulights.com does not have any parts either
I have searched the web for parts in order to help fixya visitors, and I can't find any trippers or clock repair parts at all.
I bought a new Malibu 330Watt at Home Depot thinking the manual or box would show information>> but the new Power Packs have a digital clock, not the old dial clock with trippers.

Look like you have to buy a new Power Pack to fix the old one.

Thank you for including model number so answer can be accurate as possible.

T104P3 timer works with manual override so timer is basically sound.
Clock dial rotates and keeps good time, so WG1573 240Volt clock motor is good.
Trippers do not click on-off lever, so trippers are suspect.
Trippers are made to wear down so that timer mechanism lasts years longer.

The H20 sensor is the Pressure Switch. Locate the pressure switch, remove the two leads and jump them together. If the error code goes away, you need a new switch. If not, it could be a software, or other hardware issue.
