Usually this will be on top or either side and the problem is the optical light engine is damaged from heat----seen about a dozen.

SOURCE: have white dots on screen. model HL-S4266W

it seems like you might have an issue with your dmd board. Go to the tv menu and if the dots also show there, the issue is with the dmd board, but if they don't, it's with the video board

SOURCE: Samsung DLP HL-S4266W White dot problem

Its the DLP IC chip itself that is bad. The DMD board is where the chip resides but if you order a board, it will come without the chip. Its not cheap and the replacement is tricky because the DMD board must be removed and then an alignment of picture centering will be necessary.

SOURCE: samsung dlp tv hl-s4266w has white spots on it?

Are they spots or dots? If they are spots then the optics are contaminates. If they are dots either white or black then you have a bad DMD chip. The cost of repair depends on who you hire to repair the set or if you do it yourself it depands who you purcahse the part from.

Well for what you describe it sounds like the symptoms of a worn out lamp giving you the last kicks, basically the the lamps are design to go for 6,000 to 8,000 lamp hours if they're Phillips and a generic lamp could give you 3500 to 4500 lamp hours so with this in mind you could search for a new lamp at or you can go to Ebay also you can go to for more troubelshooting

Please rate this if it was I do this for free.

Samsung HL-S4266W 42 in. TV has a bad DLP module. Specifically, an increasing number of bright white dots are appearing on the screen. What's the part number for a replacement module, and where can I buy...

The part # all depends on which version of the set that you have. Take a gander round the side of your side. Right side, if memory serves. You should see a sticker with 3 lines. One for model #, one for serial and one for version.

On the off chance you don't see one, check around the left side of the screen and take note of the lamp code. Your version will probably be a PB01 or PB02.

Depending on the version, the part # changes. Either way, you're looking at about $200.00 for a DLP chip. That's just the chip mind you, not the DMD PCB that drives it, or the rest of the light engine that helps process that information. I have had, during the course of my career, replaced a DLP chip to address white spots on the screen and found that insufficient voltage from the power supply cause the issue in the first place, or that the light engine itself was a contributing factor.

If you were to replace the light engine itself, you would replace all three components here and guarantee yourself a solid repair. You would hit the LE, the DLP and DMD all at once by doing a light engine. Granted, the cost is substantially more, but it might be easier in the long run to swallow $600.00 for a completed set than to swallow $200.00 for a DLP chip that didn't fix the issue and now can't be returned. Plus, a light engine will literally take you 30 minutes to put in and be done. Maybe even less.

PS - Don't touch the surface of that chip. And when you remove the DMD, pull out the old DLP chip and insert the new're going to have to have help. Someone is going to need to watch the screen while you manipulate the DMD--set on and running--to align it back to the aperture. Have fun.

Part #s: Version PB01 :
Version PB02:

Try to secure parts.

Dark band on left side, Samsung HL-R5668W

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)

DLP TV: Left half normal, vertical 6" band center is gray, right half almost black. What's wrong?

No. The optical engine is OK. You need an adjustment in the light tunel. Call a tech to do it.
