Question about Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lense of camera is stuck out

I own a Canon Powershot SD870 digital camera. The lense is stuck in the out position. When I power off the camera the lense won't go back in. I have taken the battery in and out and the lense still won't budge. All of the other functions of the camera are still working. I cannot take pictures because the lense will not move to focus.

Lens Error - Restart Camera : Lens remains in extended position.

I had the same problem with the same camera. Ended up twisting the lens by hand back and forth while powering the camera on and off till the lens pins finally realined and let it close properly. Took alot of patience and care but has worked since. Usual cause of this problem is powering camera while the lens is blocked from extending, ie in a case, laying on its face etc.

My camera is Canon PowerShot SD870 IS. after i turned it on and the lenses goes outward as it should be but remained there even if i turned of the the power. i should mention it used to work properly.

That is lense trauma. I can be caused by dirt or lense being hit or zolted while open. Canons are strong cameras but if it make a grinding noise when the lense is trying to go back into the camera it most likely needs repair. try blowing the lens out with a hurricane blower or forced air. If the lense is tilted to one side even slightly no amount of forced air will help. good luck!
