What kind of thread do I use for the Expressive 820

You would use sewing machine thread depending on what you are sewing. If you are embroidering, you'd probably want to use embroidery thread. If you are quilting, you would probably use cotton or quilting thread. If you are sewing garments, then you will probably want to use polyester or polyester-wrapped cotton thread.

Be sure you are using the correct needle corresponding with the thread and project. (You don't have to use Schmetz needles, but this is a great guide.) Also, change the needle often to avoid sewing problems.

I have just been given a singer melodie 40.When I start to sew, material is stopped by bobbin? Bobbin is breaking off bits of thread underneath?

Try a brand new needle. Make sure the thread is suitable to the needle and fabric you are using. AVOID old or bargain bin threads. Spend an extra dollar or two for good thread.
All About Needles

Check that there are no loose threads stuck in the upper thread path, ie the tension disk.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread. Verify that the thread path is correct. Mis-threading will invariably cause broken thread.

Clean out the bobbin area & feed dogs of any lint and loose threads. Check that the bobbin has been installed & threaded correctly and turning the right direction in the bobbin case.

Manually rotate the handwheel one turn until the upper thread grabs the the bobbin thread. Pull it the rest of the way to the top. When beginning to stitch, start slowly and gently hold both thread tails in your left hand until it has made a couple of stitches.

How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

If you have a manual, make sure you follow the maintenance tips. If the machine needs oiling, be sure to follow the instructions using only fresh good quality sewing machine oil. Most machines that have been given as gifts from a sewist's stash may not have been maintained regularly.

If it still does not stitch properly, take it for service. It could have a timing issue, ie the needle arrives at the bobbin at the wrong time to intercept the bobbin thread.

After stitching few stitches my machine snger 8280 get jammed

Not being there, I have to guess, but my guess is, your bobbin case is not set in properly, or you have a badly wound bobbin that's causing the jamming.

Another possibility is you have threads wrapped around the tension unit on the inside.

Machine wont sew cotton keeps coming out of needle tried everything

Do you mean cotton thread won't work in the machine ? Does polyester thread work ?

Some thread brands are not as good quality as some others. Not knowing what brand thread you have, it is possible the thread itself is causing the problem. .

If other types of thread work in this machine, it is most likely either the particular spool of thread or the brand being low quality that is the problem. I would try a brand new spool of a high quality cotton thread to see if that helps.

I cannot thread my machine needle automatically

Are you finding it difficult to see clearly when trying to thread your needle by hand/ If so I use a needle threadr that comes with a packet of hand sewing needles. Basically its like a tiny fine wire hoop, on a handle. you push the hoop through the sewing machine needle eye/hole FROM THE REAR? BACK OF THE NEEDLE.Once the hoop goes through the eye/hole of the needle, it pops open slighly. You then pass the cotton through the hoop, allowing at leat 5cm thread to be pulled through. Then from the back of the machine pull the hoop back out of the needle, then the cotton follows and VOILA it is threaded. I sometimes have to use this method if changing the cotton color at night as my eyes cannot see the needle so clearly. Happy sewing.

from the cotton holder you run the thread across to the thread tensioner you pull the thread through this then you thread it through the hole in the little arm that goes up and down with the needle you then bring the thread down to the needle passing it through the holder at the top of the needle then you thread the cotton through the needle make shore the needle is in the right way this should work

When starting to sew, cotton becomes knotted in fabric and machine stops. Have tried new cotton spool, new needle, checked for blockages, everything seems to be free-running. Advice please, thanks

it is possible that the needle & thread are not compatable
here's how to check
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread
