How to set up an HP to a NW directly

I am trying to figure out how to set up my HP 2420 to my internal network directly. It has a NIC and I figure that if I plug in my network cable directly to the printer there is some way I can put the printer on the network but I am not sure how and don't have a manual for the printer.

Yes, you can connect your printer to your network by plugging it into a hub, switch or router that is connected to your network.

The general HP site for your printer is here.
The Network manual is a little bit convoluted, but helpful. It is here.

You might have to re-install the printer software, which you'll find on the same page (first link). It is usually the biggest download you can find. Don't we all love HP...;-)

If you need any further assistance, please come back and I am happy to help.

How to add NIC in HP color laserjet CP1215 Printer?

If this model HP does not have an expansion slot for a HP Jetdirect Print server, then to use this printer on your network you have two options.
1. Connect the printer to a desktop computer on your network and set it uo as a shared printer. This means this computer and printer needs to be powered up for the other computer on your network to print to the shared printer.
2. Connect the printer to a print server that is connected to your network.

EIO 1 ERROR

There's probably a problem with the card in the printer. It may need a firmware upgrade, you may need to adjust settings or even change the slot. The EIO 1 means it is now in slot 1. Here are some steps to try from the HP website:

Press (Select) to enter the MENUS.
Press (Down arrow) to highlight INFORMATION.
Press (Select) to select INFORMATION.
Press (Down arrow) to highlight PRINT CONFIGURATION.
Press (Select) to select PRINT CONFIGURATION
Check if the I/O card is on ready state.
Make sure that TCP/IP status is ready.
Check the network statistics for any bad packets or bad transmition.
Try to use another slot then the one that the JD is installed on.
If the problem persist, try performing a cold reset with the JD inside.Warning: This will reset the printer's configuration to the default settings, and also to the JD so you will need to set again the network values.

This is not a printer problem. You have a computer problem. In ALL cases, the printer is told what to do from the computer, it does not report TO the computer.

My HP LJ 2420 printer always lost network connection

fatuto,

I would recommend replacing the JetDirect card in your printer. What model is the card? The 600, 610 and 615 can be replaced with a newer 620. Make note of all of the IP address info before replacing the JetDirect card. If you send more detailed info, I can make sure that I send the correct info that you need.

Try this and let me know what happens. Binary Bob
