Since Acer is world renowned for poor support, Can you please give the make and model of your motherboard? I need it so I can tell you if upgrading to a 64 bit processor is possible.

OMG!! doogie812, quit giving people bad advice. From what you have suggested, you know nothing about computer hardware. You can upgrade the processor in this system and it will not effect the OS one bit, except make it process the data a little quicker. With this system, if you had done any research at all, it only comes with 1GB of memory, you should of suggested to this person to add more memory.

For the most part that is not doable. You cannot switch processors in mid stream. Given the fact that AMD and INTEL have boat loads invested in there chip sets, Windows detects this. Changing hardware on your software will result in a major slowdown in your operating system. You will have to reload. Many people think there slow computer is a result of the microprocessor, this is wrong!.
It is the lack of memory and poor design of the buss structure that results in slow computing.

I have a acer aspire m1640, with the motherboard fails, if i can not fix it, what motherboard, acer apart, can i mount it? thank you

There are a few options you have on this, but if you want to maintain full compatibility with your current hardware, then you must purchase a motherboard that supports DDR2 533/667 MHz SDRAM since that is what comes standard in Acer Aspire M1640 Desktops.
A few options that would be similar to stock motherboard would be:
Foxconn G31MXP-K I7 or Biostar TForce TG31-A7
Those motherboards have similar specs to the stock motherboard and you can take a look at the specs of the Acer Aspire M1640 from this link below:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM1640/AspireM1640sp2.shtml
Both those motherboards I have linked you too are microATX boards, which should fit fine in your case which may be a standard ATX case.
If you are willing to upgrade your ram, then your options open up to any motherboard that supports the Intel Pentium Dual Core processor. Since the stock motherboard also provides onboard video, chances are you don't have a video card plugged into your motherboard (unless you've upgraded that yourself) which means you should also look for a motherboard that provides onboard video so you don't have to purchase a video card.

Good luck!

Aces Aspire M1640 desktop-pc starts but the monitor says NO SIGNAL. Tried various monitors and videocards without result. Can't find what mainbord is in it to have it changed. Regards, Toine

black out can be caused by series of things. Power supply is one. Second is the motherboard, memory and the processor aside from the video card. Motherboard and processor can be isolated, first is to remove the rest of the devices such as hard disk and cards and memory. Beep sound means your board is still doing fine. Re install all the devices and power on again. Good luck

or
Intel® Celeron® Processor 550

or
Intel® Celeron® Processor 540
(1MB L2 cache, 1.86GHz, 533MHz FS
or

or
Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core Processor T1400

Check the features with Acer first and see if your motherboard model support that speed processor.

Compatibility

A8V-MXs are built for AMD processors. You will need a board made for Intel processors if you want to purchase the above processor. If you want to stick with Intel and Asus check out the P5 series of boards. If not, buy an AMD chip...I've had AMD in almost every one of my computers, laptops and desktops.

Good luck.
