Belkin wireless adapter thinks router is WEP but its WPA

When i roll over the wireless connection it says its WEP but it is definately WPA - 2 other computers are connected correctly. occassionally it has recognised WPA but then when I click connect it fails and its back recognising it as WEP. tried reducing router security to WEP but it just wouldnt connect either, saying key was wrong. it was working ok with no security as wel as with WEP with an access point, problems started with install of new belkin wireless n router. please help.

I can't figure out my WEP key for my router

When you first configured the router, you should have defined:
* an SSID, namely the "name" of your wireless network;
* an encryption-level, e.g., 'WEP'. But, use 'WPA' or 'WPA2', for better security;
* a password, e.g., your WEP-key or your WPA-key.

Reconfigure the router, to define a new SSID/password.

I have a Belkin play N 600 Router, my newer Toshiba, and my Apple, and a Dell can connect to this unit, however our HP Windows XP will not connect to this unit. I have tried to follow the direction given...

Your other computers must be connecting to the Belkin using WEP encryption if the Belkin does not support WPA encryption.
Therefore you need to configure the wireless card in the HP with the Belkin's WEP encryption key.

Can't connect ae1000 to a WEP encrypted bg access point

To connect to a WEP or any encrypted site, you will need to know and supply to your network connection:
  • the SSID (especially if the ID is not being broadcast as an additional safety feature).
  • the exact Encryption Key (normally entered in Hex format).
  • You need to exactly specify the security type (Open, Shared, WPA or WPA2) used for your wireless WEP connection as define on the access point wireless modem/router.
Hope it helps.

Is the PIN on the bottom of the router the same as the WEP or WPA?

WEP or WPA are the types of wireless security. If your wireless network is secured then there will be a password on the network that is called as wireless network key or passphrase ( WEP or WPA key ). PIN number is different than WEP or WPA.
To check the wireless network key ( WEP / WPA) you will need to access the router settings page.
On that page , you will find all the settings of the router.

The light stays red, won't connect.

If the light on adapter is red it means that it cannot establish a wireless connection.

We need to get the wireless settings on the Belkin router and match those settings to your xbox adapter.

Use a computer to access the setup page of the belkin router. In a web browser's address bar type: 192.168.2.1.

It will prompt you to enter your router password. By default, just leave the password blank.

Once you are on the setup page, go to the wireless tab. Take note of the SSID, Broadcast SSID should be enabled.

Then Under Wireless go to Security. Take note of the Security Mode (WPA or WEP), Passphrase or WEP key.

Now, on your XBOX, go to System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

Select the SSID. Select Infrastructure for the Network mode. Select the security type if WPA or WEP and enter the Passphrase or WEP key.

Save the settings then select Test Xbox Live Connection.

I hope this works! Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated. Good luck!

Router problems

Check with this tip.
Check if router is working on Net using a Lan cable to connect your PCs and check if you can browse from PC..
If Internet OK check if radio is enabled in your Belkin router.
Then check if your SSID broadcast is enabled in your router.
Check if Router and PCI Wlan adapter are on same WLAN standard A,B, G, or N and disable every security protocol (WEP or WPA)
Define a new SSID name and check if you see your Wlan on PC.
Restore your security as soon as connection established.
