You can try going to brother.com and click on the "support" tab, then click on "downloads". There you should find your model listed and can download it for free.
From everything that I've seen I don't see any way to tim stamp incoming faxes. Almost all fax machines should automatically time stamp outgoing faxes unless the user has removed that function for some reason. If you are getting faxes from people that don't include time stamps than the next best thing is to use the journaling feature. The 2820 can print a journal of past incoming faxes that will include timestamps of the past faxes recieved in either 6,12,24 hour or 2, 7 day intervals. The default is every 50 faxes. To change the settings:
Press Menu/Set, 2,4,2
2. Journal Period
Use Arrows to choose an interval
Press Menu/Set
Press Stop/Exit
Use menu 2.3.2 to access the number you wish to change. Use the cursor (left and right arrows)to go to the number(s) you need to change, When the cursor is under the digit that needs changing, type in the new number. Continue this process until the number reads correctly. Press SET afterward and the new number should now be saved. Hope this answers your question. All the best!

Try here. I didn't see the 870c, make sure you have the right model number (check the back label as well) and try the one listed as 970c if you can't find it. Sometimes the next model up will handle the model down from it as well. Good luck!
This is usually an indication that a phone is off the hook somewhere in the building. Hook up a regular phone to the wall jack that the fax is hooked up to now. Check to see that you have a dial tone. If not, then the problem is somewhere else.
Hope that's it
Ed
