Unless it is an expensive unit just replace the microwave---replacement is tricky and not usually for a do it yourself person.

How to remove control panel on PLMVZ169HCA

Good Morning Frances Seaman, thank you for your post!
I understand that you would like to have instructions on removing the control panel of your Frigidaire microwave, PLMVZ169HCA. Typically, this is not a simple DIY job. I would recommend contacting a technician to come and properly disassemble your microwave to remove or replace any electrical components. This will help to avoid personal injury and any future issues. Best of luck! -OOS

We had a bad power surge during a storm last week which fried my Panasonic NN-T990saf. My question is it worth trying to get it repaired or should I just buy a new micro wave?

Although lightning damage is normally fatal to anything with electronics inside, you might remove the back panel and look for fuse holders. If you find one (minimum) or two (likely), replace them (if you have a cheap multimeter you can check for continuity) and see  if it will turn on. You may have to do a little telephone work to locate the high current fuse which is probably 30 amps.
If you live in an area of frequent lightning strikes, investing in a 'whole house' surge arrester makes sense. These are installed in the main breaker box and any brand I've seen comes with a $10-25,000 insurance policy to replace any dead appliances that fail despite the surge protector. They cost $150-250 US plus installation which you can save if you are afraid to DIY.

My microwave turns on when the door is openned.

UNPLUG AND DONT USE you have a bad or wet control board . if you gave cleaned the keypad in the last day or so , it might dry out in a few days ......if not it just went bad . most control boards are between 130.00 and 160.00 without looking up your oven ... so in most cases its not worth the repair

I have a 1994 Pannasonic Microwave Model T994sf . The microwave does not heat and somtimes turns off after 20 - 35 seconds. I chnged the fuse and it still does not heat up. Can you help?

When the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace, it isn't worth repairing. That Microwave is > 14 years old and chances are the Magnetron tube or the filamant power supply is failing after all the use. If I were you, I would consider buying another Microwave to replace it.. Hope that helps..
