The hole can most likely be fixed with epoxy and a filter drier added to the refrigerator by an experienced refrigerator technician but the problem involved will be the cost to have the repair done. It would be less expensive to replace the refrigerator, Thanks Sea Breeze

SOURCE: I've punctured a hole in the lining of the freezer

It sounds like you have punctured the evaporator coil and it is leaking refridgerant.

That would certainly cause the unit to be low on refridgerant which would cause it to start warming up, and becoming louder. It would also explain the smell.

If the unit is fairly new it *may be worth repairing, You will likely need a new coil.

Expect costs in the 300 to 500 range.
I reccomend getting a secondary place to store the food, and unplugging the unit emediatly if you want to have it repaired.

The reason for that is because the compressor is likely undamaged at this point. but if it runs on empty it will soon fail and then you can double the repair price or more.

SOURCE: Punctured a hole in the freezer compartment

That type of damage is usually fatal to the unit. It is difficult if not impossible to repair in most cases depending on the metal used to make the evaporator, and what kind if equipment the repairman has. You can't fix this yourself, consult a local repairman, explain what happened, and the model of the unit, and ask if repairable what it might cost. Or just buy a new one. And NEVER use sharp objects in an effort to remove frost buildup. Turn it off, put your stuff in a cooler, and use a heat source such as a bucket of hot water in the unit with the door closed

Ice built up in my small kenmore fridges freezer and i was chippin it and made a hole and cold stuff came out will my fridge still work

You most likely punctured one of your tubes, letting the freon escape. If that is the case, the system must be repaired and recharged for it to operate and cool. Running your compressor without refrigerant will cause damage. Pull the plug, move the food, and have a repair person look at it. All hope is not lost; the tube may be repairable and the system recharged. It would pay to have the repairs estimated. Small fridges will be close in cost to repair or replace.
Best luck to you,

Chipping away ice in magic chef freezer section i punctured freon line in freezer panel can refridge still get cold

No, the fridge will not get cold any more. The coolant goes to the coils in the freezer. The fridge takes a small amount of cold air from the freezer to lower its temperature.

I am sorry to say that unless you can find a way to repair the puncture and refill the system with freon, you are going to have to buy another refrigerator.

I put a hole in the freezer compartment, did I really just ruin the fridge? What would it cost to repair? and where do I get the parts?

You would need to clean the area around the puncture real well and get some epoxy putty to repair the hole. Allow for the area to dry and harden at least 24 hours.
Then you would need to evacuate the system to make sure no moisture is in the sealed sytem or ice will form in the lines and block the flow of freon. The system will only hold about 1/3rd of a 12 ounce can of R134a which anyone can buy a a automotive arts store. You would need to find a way to tap into the system to charge and vacuum it. The old folks used to purge a system instead of vacuuming it. The newer freon is environmentally safe so no special card is needed to purchase it. However it is still dangerous. You must not breathe the stuff or connect it to the high side of the compressor. The discharge side willl always be the high side and it will always go to the cooling condenser and is small steel line. An ear coming out the compressor is an ideal spot to connect a saddle valve to tap into the system. Before attaching a saddle valve you will fair better if you sand the copper down to prevent leaks. A saddle valve can be purchased at any appliance parts store. Ask for an A-1 line tap. To do the job right you need guages. The low side pressure should not exceed 5 PSI. Thats all the smart pills I have. The gauges will have 3 hoses. Blue(low side)red(high side)yellow(freon). Put your blue hose on the A-1 tap, connect your freon to the yellow hose, and put the red hose on the vacuum pump. Open all the valves on the gauges and turn on the vacuum pump.(Leave the freon closed). After 30 minutes close all valves and shut down vacuum pump. If the vacuum holds, open the freon can and crack open the blue hose, let the freon go in slowly till it equalizes. Bubble test for leaks at the patch. Plug in the ice box and watch the guage drop. The needle on the blue gauge should be close to 5 PSI for a correct charge (over charging will choke down the compressor, not good). Remember the ice box only holds 4 ounces! That is one third of a 12 ounce can. Weigh it in if you want to be exact. Check for leaks. If all goes well it will be good as new.

Need freon recharge. punctures freezer coil in

You punctured the aluminum evaporator . In the many years I've been in refrigeration , I have yet to find any way to patch a hole in the evaporator . I've used epoxy , solder , and all different advertised ways to try to patch aluminum . Nothing worked ( for long anyway ) . My suggestion would be to buy another refrig . You will be wasting time and money trying to " fix " this problem . To repair it yourself , you have to have a license to buy R12 , maybe you can buy R134A without a license , you have to look on the " modell , serial number tak to see which it uses and how much to use . Also , the system has to evacuated ( all air removed from the lines ) . Do you have a vacuum pump ? You have to buy a solder on connector ( or saddle valve which WILL leak eventually unless you get a solder on valve ) which will connect to the larger tubing on the compressor or use the access line already on the compressor but is pinched off . Do you have guages for the refrigerant type you need to use ? Once you have these things , reply back and myself or someone else will help you procede .

Punctured a hole in air condtioner..HELP

The only sure way to repair the unit is to replace the condensor coil. Pressures are too great for a patch job.

Punctured gas line/ uses R-12

not very easily. Most freezers have the evaporator and condenser inside the wall of the cabinet and you cannot access them. If the puncture is in the condenser you can put in an exterior condenser however the parts break down for your model does not offer this option (:

Hole

you have punctured one or more of the refrigerant lines. Your chances of fixing this are slim, but if you can find the hole, you can solder it shut, then pressurize the unit with new refrigerant. The former you might be able to do yourself. The latter will require you to get a repairman who has the necessary refrigerent and valves to re-load the unit. I would guess the cost of repair is probably more than the unit is worth.

HELP - I punctured the Evaporator coil - is it junk now?

i will give u an experience
if u can see that tiny puncture then u can fix it.
how? well take a 100 grit sand paper and slowly rough the punctured hole on the side of the hole approx 1 inch around it.clean it with a clean cloth. next take some petroleum ether soak a tissue in ththat and with the ether moist towel wipe the area and the hole nicely .now buy fro the market aluminium epoxy tubes. mix a little bit of the epoxy in a i:1 rratio and apply a coating of this stuff on and around the just cleaned hole. After about 12 hours the puncture is repaired now dont touch it.
Take the fridge to a professional refrigerant filling person who has experience in filling gas. he will vacuum the system and remove any ingress of moisture and then begin filling gas. your fridge will be good as new after this job
