thank you, thank you, thank you! it's a Sony DSC-S750 if that helps at all.

Depending on your camera, you may need a disc to run the drives. Did your camera come with any paperwork, or discs?

Okay, put your disc in, and when the little box comes up saying that it recognizes new hardware, try to click on that and go from there. If that does not work, let me know and I will find another solution for you.

Alright, I'm going to go on a hunt now and try and figure this out for you.

  • Mandee Jan 11, 2009

Alright, let's see. If you're trying to upload pictures from your camera. There are a few options.

As far as dowloading the pictures to your PC:
    1. Get a card
reader - from eBay: they are ridiculously inexpensive. Just check which
card your camera uses and ensure the reader you buy covers this one or
get a multi-reader. This way you never need to connect your camera to
the PC - simply put the card into the reader!
    2. Download "Picasa" from Google at
    http://picasa.google.com/download/
    When
you put the card into the reader inform Picasa and it will place all
that is on the card to your hard drive in "My Pictures". Done!
Picasa also offers within the program simple editing and printing options.
It will also burn slide shows for you.

If your USB is working with other peripherals, there's nothing wrong with your comp, return to where you bought the camera, tell them the problem and they will have to fix it.

I also found another explanation, which better suits, I believe.

So how did I finally fix the problem? Well, apparently
it’s a super simple solution! No need to edit the registry, uninstall
drivers, or anything of that sort.
Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY.
Yes that’s it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your
computer because modern computers don’t really turn off when you press
the power button as the motherboard still gets power.

First to explain, the motherboard is where all of
hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports.
Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “rebooted” also because something
can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small
microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB
ports should be back to recognizing all devices!

So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or
pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let
it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.

Hope this helps someone fix that pesky “USB device not recognized” Windows error!

So try unplugging your computer completely and waiting 30 seconds, plug it back in and start it up - try installing once again!!

When trying to download photos I get a message stating that there is not camera hooked up to the USB port. My camera is indeed connected and I have rerun the Olympus software disc to no avail. Please help.

Make sure the camera is on and pc is selected on the camera screen when connected to the computer. You will need to have PC highlighted and select ok on the camera as this starts the camera and computer to communicate. Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. Check the System Tray (lower right corner beside the PC time) for Safely Remove Hardware. When you click on it, it should read "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive ?:" If you dont see that, then check the Device Manager to see if the camera is recognized as USB Mass Storage Device. The camera uses the driver usbstor.

USB device not recognized

This solution worked for me when I got the USB device not recognized message:

It can be quite frustrating. I've heard that older computers are more likely to have the USB device not recognized message.

Are you turning the camera on after you plug it in to your computer? You should do that with all your USB devices. Let me know if that helps. Feel free to rate my answer.

Camera Connection

Two things:

1. The USB cable where it connects to the camera has to firmly in place otherwise it can disconnect from the computer even though it appears to be connected.

2. In the HP 635 'Set up' menu there is a section called USB configuration that has a 'computer' icon and either of these two options:
USB (Digital Camera)
USB (Disk Drive)
Set it to USB (Digital Camera). This tells your computer what sort of device is connect to it.

If you are connected correctly as above this is what happens:
1. Message: 'Establishing connection with computer'
2. Message: 'Connected to computer'.
3. images are copied to the computer.

I hope this helps.
