I think you are looking at the wrong thing.

Lets start from the begining-

1. Make sure the drivers are installed. I am going to assume you are using XP since you did not stat otherwise. Right click on "My computer" and click on manage
On the left side you will see device manager, click on that and a device tree will show up on the left side. Look for the catigory " Sounds, video and game controllers" if it is not listed then you do not have drives installed. Look for any device with a red of yellow symbol next to it. If this is your case, post about not having drivers for your sound card and list the model of your laptop. If you dont see either, then you may have to get into the BIOS to enable the audio hardware

2. Make sure windows knows what sound card to use.
Open control panel and make sure you are in classic view (left side, but if you see more then 15 icons then you are in classic view) Find "Sounds and audio devices" open that and click on the tab at the top called audio. In two of the drop down boxes, one under sound playback and one under sound recording, make sure your sound card is selected. (unimodem is your internet modem, not your sound card, don't select that, if you have no other option then your card is not setup to the system and you are back at step one)

Once that is done, click volume under the sound playback and make sure all of the sliders are up (except for the mic) and unmuted. Use what ever media player of choice you want and test the sound. Make sure the volume in the player is turned up too.

Good Luck!

movingwater,

Try uninstalling the driver and then reinstall it back into the system. This may clear this issue up.

I have a Realtek HD audio driver on my Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 with SP3. I can listen to anything online and offline but I can't record anything using my Wave Pad sound editor or...

Open your control panel.
Click on Sounds and Audio Devices with the control panel in classic mode.
Click on the Audio tab.
Is Realtek HD Audio Input Device listed as the default device under Sound recording?
If not, select that from the drop down list and click Apply/OK.

your drivers are available here ; http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8250&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid
download the specific drivers to your desktop (so you can find them) install in this order, chipset , sata if needed, video, audio.
make sure you check the windows updates site afterwards for all the new windows updates since your version of XP was purchased.

XW4300 Sound Card problem, only working in Windows MP

Most online audio makes use of Adobe Flash, did you check that?
Best is to download and install the latest version of Flash to make sure.

Installing the latest version of DirectX for Windows XP can also help (9.0c).

Please also check for further suggestions about fixing sound problems in Windows XP.

Gateway E2000 Audio driver (Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device)

it is entirely possible we are all having the same problem. If your system was ordered from ebay from a military surplus like mine was, the person or persons installing the dvdrom drives has forgotten to connect said device to the motherboard. I am in the process of looking for the cable, and will announce if i do.

Waves not playing yet mp3s do.

Nopes. What seems to be was a suspended application installation (probably you or somebody qho used your computer just before it happenned). You can try System Restore. It should roll back that kind of file extension change. Hope it helps, good luck.
Solution #2: You can do as well if the system restore does not work to reasign the software that is going to open that file extension (so far I know the change has been made to MP3, WAV, MIDI.). That you can do it by opening my computer, then go to "TOOLS", inside of it go to "FOLDER OPTIONS", then choose the tab "FILE TYPES". There, scroll down until you see the extension "MP3" and place your mouse arrow on it. Now below it you are going to see two choices that you can click on, click on "CHANGE" and choose your favorite program. Again, I hope it helps...

Fujitsu seimens scaleo P

Easiest way is to find the drivers through the "connect to internet" option which you get once you click on update/re-install drivers in the device manager. Sometimes this process does not work, so in that case you go to fujitsu site, support, choose your PC model and download drivers. Another option, go to driversguide.com, specify your PC model & download drivers.
