Question about Broderbund Computers & Internet
I started to create a family tree, with Broderband FTM version 6.0. This was saved to an external hard drive. Since then the old PC has been scrapped and we've replaced it with a Windows 7 Professional. Of course the Family Tree Maker won't work on the new PC. Can I try version 6.0?, do I need to buy a particular newer version to access the saved data?, or do I have to give up , buy a new program and start all over again?

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hi madelyn evan,
Version 6 Family Tree Maker is designed to be used with Windows 95 / 98 , therefore in order to use it in Vista you must run your program using Compatinity Mode --> Install your software--> Go to your Desktop --> Right click on the program icon--> properties-->Compatibility--> select one of the versions above
I hope this helps. If so, please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly

Sounds like Compatibility Mode may help.
To configure the compatibility mode for an application, just locate the installation directory and right click on the .exe, selecting Properties from the menu.
Select the Compatibility tab:
You can choose to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode, or even all the way back to Windows 95 compatibility.
Probably the most useful setting to start off with would be to disable the visual themes and desktop composition, if you can't get things working. If you are trying to run a video game, you will often need to choose "Run this program as an administrator". You'll have to play around with it, but most likely you can get your application working this way.

Yes, it should run on Windows7, as I have done it some time ago. I have experienced a problem with the some printing options to PDF format, and I need to find a amyuni document converter to overcome this problem. Everythings else works and will not cause any problems to your existing files you have compiled
