Check your user guide if available. It sounds like you haven't set the door open limit, so press the up arrow & fully open to the door & push set, do the same for the down arrow until door is completely closed. Push the set button again & the door should be right..

What does the purple button light flashing on 1/2 horsepower craftsman garage door opener

I think the adjustment mode is on.

For example, that's from Craftsman manual:

""
Setting the Force
The force setting button is located on the left panel of the motor unit. The force setting measures the amount of force required to open and close the door.
1. Locate the purple button on the left panel of the motor unit (Figure 1).
2. Push the purple button twice to enter the opener into Force Adjustment Mode (Figure 2). The LED (Indicator Light) will flash quickly.
3. Push the remote control or control console (Figure 3). The door will travel to the DOWN (close) position.

""

Actually, you should just read carefully your garage door opener unit's manual.

Craftsman Garage Door Opener Remote

Why Can't I add another remote to a merlin mt60p

If you purchase additional transmitters, the garage door
opener must be programmed to accept the new remote
code.
Program the Receiver to Match Additional Transmitter
Codes:
Using the orange "LEARN" Button:
1. Press and hold down the transmitter button you wish to
program to the opener. The orange LED will flash to
indiciate it is receiving signal from the transmitter.
2. Press and release the "LRN" button.
3. The sourtesy LEDs will flash once.
Ensure the door is clear of obstruction, then test the
transmitter.
Using the Motion Detecting Control Panel
(optional accessory):
1. Press and hold the button on the hand-held remote that
you wish to operate your garage door (1).
2. While holding the remote button, press and hold the
LIGHT button on the Motion Detecting Control Panel (2).
3. Continue holding both buttons while you press the push
bar on the Motion Detecting Control Panel (all three
buttons are held) (3).
4. Release buttons when the opener light flashes. It has
learned the code. If the light bulb is not installed, two
clicks will be heard (4).
Now the opener will operate when the transmitter push
button is pressed. If you release the transmitter push button
before the opener light flashes, the opener has not learned
the code.
To Erase all Transmitter Codes:
To deactivate any unwanted remote, first erase all codes:
Press and hold the orange "learn" button on opener until
the learn indicator light goes out (approximately 6 seconds).
All previous codes are now erased. Reprogram each remote or keyless entry you wish to learn.

Garage door only closes halfway

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses when closing it is a door sensor problem. You can override this with the door control but not with a remote. Make sure the door sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is on and not flickering.

My door will open, but not close by remote.

Your sensors must be pointed at one another for them to both be lit and they both must be lit to work properly. If tweaking them doesn't cause the one to light then it is most likely bad.

The door does not respond when using the remote inside the car

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Look at the LED just to the left of all those white wires and see if it is flashing a code. It will flash a number of times and then pause if it is sending a code. If the code is 5 then you have a bad RPM sensor board which is just in front of the motor. Also try increasing the down force just a bit. This control is on the rear of the motor unit.
