If you are using the s-video jack to connect the DVD to the TV, the jack could be loose or the wire could be bad. The s-video cable has 2 signals, the black-and-white (luminance) and the color (chroma). If the chroma signal is not getting through, the picture will be in black and white.

hmm check your dvd manual regarding the the PAL and NTSC, or look for keys on your remote control that say PAL/NTSC

SOURCE: DVD Player won't play movies in color

It could be the av cables being faulty or shorted. Try replacing them with another set and see if it goes away.

Can't get color when playing color movies, picturee is in black and white. sound OK. tv color OK when watching tv only. Visio TV, memorex home theatre vcr. what's the problem.

Any number of problems can cause no color. For example, a very dirty video head, a defective head or even mechanical misalignment to name a few. Try using a wet type head cleaner, they seem to work better for excessive dirt on the video heads which is usually the problem with no color and is the easiest to fix.

Let me know how this works out for you.

1. Verify connections are color coded.

2. If they are correct, take out movie, press Play/Stop at same time on the front of the unit (not remote) to reset any settings that may have been changed.
