Question about Crane Hello Kitty Humidifier

Open Question

Why isn't the mist coming out even though the light is green?

I just took the humidifier out of storage. The water is in the base and the light is green, but the mist isn't coming out of the top. I can see the water kind of sputtering and a tiny bit of mist, but it's not making it all the way out. Also when I lift the whole thing, there is condensation on the table it's sitting on. I didn't have this problem last year. I've tried cleaning it with a vinegar solution. There's also no noise coming from it now (there used to be a soft whirring sound when it was on). Any ideas? Is it a goner? I also don't see any screws to open the base.

SOURCE: I got the Crane Cool

It's not unusual, to not be able to see the mist. It's a very fine mist. If you can feel it coming out, it's there.

SOURCE: Humidifier makes a huge noise and no mist

According to the Crane's Troubleshooting section:
The power light is green but there is no mist being emitted:
- Check that there is water in the tank.
- Check for possible lime deposits on the water level sensor or the nebulizer.
- Make sure that nothing blocks the vapor output slots.
- Check that the fan vent on bottom of humidifier is not blocked.
- Empty the humidifier and rinse the water basin with cool tap water and allow to dry for 15 to 30 min.

This next part may or may not be relevant.
Humidifier power light is staying red and not turning green. Or, Humidifier is working then stops:
- Ensure that water level sensor is assembled properly.
- Clean water float.
- Call service center and request replacement water float.

SOURCE: Humidifier blows out dust

As the previous poster said, it's probably a problem with your water.

Are you using tap water or bottled mineral water? If so, there are minerals which get nebulized along with the water, and leaves a white, dusty, residue. I fill my Crane Pig humidifier with DISTILLED water, which is pretty pure. Make sure that the water is DISTILLED ONLY, since some of the water companies distill the water and then add minerals back in (they almost got me here until I noticed the label that said "with minerals added"). The reason this is important is because during the distilling process, the water is boiled, evaporated, and then the vapor is condensed back to liquid. This removes any impurities or dissolved minerals from the water. You can see Wikipedia for more on this topic here.

Additionally, I use both the Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge (which works for the penguin as well, and gets installed in place of the original water tank cap), and the ProTec PC-1 Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridge (which I plop into the water tank) to keep the water both de-mineralized and bacteria free. I got both products at Amazon.com.

With these 3 things, so far I haven't had any white dust residue, and the mist feels fresh and clean.

On a side note, by using distilled water, you also prevent any mineralization from building up on the nebulizer or water level sensor, which can cause the humidifier to eventually stop producing mist...

SOURCE: I have had my Hello Kitty Humidifier about a year

sounds like the fan in the bottom does not have enough space. make sure the humidifer is on a flat hard surface. If its on carpet or other soft surface the fan can't push air out and the vapor won't come out.

SOURCE: Very little water left/ fills up and leaks

**With the unit unplugged**
the float sensor is probably getting sticky with residue and buildup (lime, grime, etc). Try cleaning the little float and that area. It should move easily when clean.

Hi Lisa,
  • Check that there is water in the Water Tank.
  • Make sure that nothing blocks the Mist Output Slots.
  • Check that the Fan Vent on the bottom of the humidifier is not blocked.
  • Empty the humidifier and rinse the Water Basin with cool tap water and allow to dry for 15 to 30 minutes before resuming normal operation.
  • Check for possible mineral deposits on the Water Level Sensor or the Nebulizer.

Located My Manual:
Hope this helps!

1. Remove tank from base. Turn upside down and unscrew filling cap. Fill tank with clean, cool, distilled, or tap water. Water temp should NEVER be too hot or too cold. Return tank to base and let sit for a few minutes. Be sure the filling cap of the tank is tightened firmly.

2. Plug power cord into a 110-120V AC wall outlet only. Turn power switch to "on" position. Power light will illuminate. Turn mist nozzle until desired level is being released. Aim nozzle away from furniture and walls.

3. Always turn humidifier off when water runs* out. Unit will continue to operate when tank is empty.
*Humidifier will run up to 12 hrs on low; 6 hrs on high.

DO NOT LET WATER SIT IN TANK FOR LONG. THIS CAN ENCOURAGE BACTERIAL GROWTH.
Place unit on level surface away from direct sunlight.
DO NOT ADD MEDICATION OF ANY TYPE INTO THE NOZZLE, BASE, OR WATER TANK.
ALWAYS LEAVE ROOM DOOR PARTLY OPEN. DO NOT MOVE, TILT, OR EMPTY WHILE OPERATING.

Mild bleach and water solution for cleaning, never detergent.
Clean every 3rd day during use. Clean after long storage
Humidity varies from room to room. Aim for 30 - 50% relative humidity. If windows/ walls fog or frost, reduce mist intensity. If room too humid, ventilate by opening door or window; adjust mist intensity.

Humidifier mist won't come out of tube

sounds like the small fan that is located in the base isn`t pushing the mist out. unplug it then take all the screws out of the base. there are screws under the black foam stands too. be careful not to touch anything that looks like live wires while you look inside then look inside while it is pluged in. it should turn. check for something blocking it like lint or dirt..you may be able to clean around the shaft with w d 40
