No remote control works with the E3D420VX television. I have tried the remote that was shipped with the unit as well as a universal programmable remote provided by my cable company - remotes previously worked and now both do not. The remotes have not been dropped, thrown, or otherwise damaged in any way. Batteries installed are brand new and were tested on other items to ensure this (flashlight, other remotes, etc.) I tried setting the television back to factory settings through the manual on-screen menu and the remotes still will not work. I believe the issue may be system board-related or firmware. Cycling power does not work to reset this neither does completely unplugging the unit and resetting. Is there another way other to enable the remotes from the television side to power on the unit than to take this unit to an authorized repair shop?

Re: Visio E3D420VX Remote Control Does Not Work
If the remotes have been tested and ruled out and do not work at even very close range to the set I would suspect the remote receiver in the set is bad---
It is of course inside the set but has to be up front somewhere with a lens--not very large.
Understand that both the remote and the front buttons(or side) both go to the same place inside the set with the manual ones having priority over the remote===remote signal is infrared and is translated inside the set---both that signal and the buttons go to the microprocessor which does the actual work.
If remotes are good something between the lens on the receiver and the micro is bad, the receiver is the common failing point. Not really a lot of parts from where the signal comes in until the micro.

On your Visio TV remote control there will be a Source button or Input button. Press it & on your TV screen select HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. See the TV to see how the HDMI cable is connected from TV to Set Top Box. Now take the other remote control i.e. Sony Universal remote in your hand. Press mute & Select simultaneously. A blue light will blink twice, Immediately release the buttons & enter the code. You have to be extremely fast in doing this.
Following are few codes which you can try:
002, 000, 011, 080, 111, 006, 071, 128, 1904, 925, 0000, 0834, 0810, 1685, 1786, 1032, 1972.
Check the Visio TV manual for the make of your TV & model no & if code is printed. Then contact Visio TV manufacturer or retailer for the Visio TV code to enter & synchronize with the Sony Remote Control.
If the standby light is ON at the front panel; when you power ON the set, and if the remote control is found OK too; the remote control sensor inside the TV is defective. Before doing anything, try by reset the set once.
There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight; will be better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
Universal remote code to check with Vizio TV is [0081. Direct Code Entry
Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then
release the SETUP button.
Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator
blinks, then stays lit.
Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry,
the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further
programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try
one of the other codes for your brand. If you want to get more details and codes to different remote controls, check this.
We can't give you the code without specific model numbers for both the TV and remote control. Try the codes for the Visio models that are listed in the manual. There is a good chance that Visio used the same coding system for more than one model. If that doesn't work, check the Internet support page for your remote control. It may have additional models listed, and one may apply if Visio used one of the other remote control systems on the market at the time your remote control was manufactured.
Did you continue to go through the code search? Chances are there is more than one code in the remote that will work with your tv and may have more or less functionality. I would give that a try first.
I contacted Vizio the other day. They tell me that they use the same generic codes as LG. I have Suddenlink Cable, formerly Charter, so I still use the Charter remote. My remote only needed 3 digits and I have noticed that many need 4 or 5. I can tell you that the LG code worked for my tv. I can power on/off, volume, and change the channel. All other functions require the manufacture's remote. The code I used is 005. There was also 004 but that did not work on my tv. Hope this helps someone!
