The manual power button ought to still turn the set on and off even if the remote is bad or not working.

I suspect you have two problems but there is a tiny chance only one as the front buttons and the remote both go to the same place in the set but here the front buttons have priority.

the remote itself can be tested with a tester most shops have and do for free or a digital camera in a very dark room will flash on its display screen when the remote buttons are pressed with the remote pointed at the camera, follow me?

As far as the manual button, that may be able to be got at, if the plastic part is broke there is a tiny push switch under that that may be activated if pressed, either both remote and manual are down or the set has a power supply problem, How handy are you? I mean no offense but I never know skill level of the person I am trying to help and I do this here for free.

SOURCE: My remote will not work

1# First unplug tv,unhook ant.let set overnight.2# Reconect ant.Plug back in.turn tv on with button on tv.let tv run trew all its modes for 5 to 6 hrs.Don`t push any buttons!!!!! It has to reset everything.then try remote, when it starts to work, set new pin code.use your instruction book,to set all blocks to N,,Clear all favorite channels + erase channels in tv 's memory if there in there yet, takes a lot of time.it will keep resetting, remote won't work.let it run awhile. then push exit, hold 5 to 10 seconds remote will eventually come back, check your settings reset them, be sure menu is set to STOP, it may start running threw all its modes again, let run couple hrs, then push exit 5 to 10 seconds to get your remote back.keep trying this. when you think the tv is working right, turn it off for 10 seconds then back on. If it starts resetting, let it run an hr,then push exit again to get your remote back,it has to reset everything, keep trying, took me 3DAYS to get it right!!!!!!!!! the only thing I don't have working is the pic size button,Don't need that anyway. GOOD LUCK.

SOURCE: Toshiba (Model : 36A43) - volume goes down automatically

I am having same problem on 32 inch same problem. After playing with board with no results,I tried front buttons and found that if I held the power button in ever so slighItly as not to turn it off, it fixed problem which is the micro on/off switch, I removed the switch and used the remote and everything is back to normal, I am about to insall a used micro switch after I finish typing this but I am sure this will clear up volume problen and menu going crazy problem if not I will just leave micro switch out and use the remote, and I will get back to this board only if that micro switch still causes the problem, so if I don't post in next hour the problem is fixed and I'm more than glad to help.

SOURCE: Toshiba TV 35A44 Volume Issue

I had the same problem, you'll probably find that that particular button will push further into the set then the others, this is due to the a weakening of a cheesy metal guide which directs the projection off the back of the button into the corresponding microswitch. This metal guide will bend and will push against the switch. My solution, (and it ain't pretty) was to unplug the set, remove the button( I used a dremel cutting bit), locate the guide,a small metal plate with a hole in it. Bend the plate toward the front of the set then tape over the hole. I haven't had the problem since. You WILL have to use your remote for further functionality of the volume, However all of the buttons seem to be inherantly poorly designed and will weaken over time, AVOID USING THEM!

Toshiba 36a43 tv has the demonstration screen running constantly over regular programming. Can't get it to shut off, remote will not respond & there is no reset button. Help please?

The problem is most likely the switches on the front panel. If the manual buttons are constantly shorting out, then the TV will try to respond to those buttons, and not the remote. Manual buttons almost always override a remote. Check the front panel for shorts, or if the buttons are constantly depressed.

The menu keeps coming up every few seconds and changing options on it's own. Like someone is using the remote, but the actual remote is unresponsive.

The problem is most likely a short in the switch panel on the front of the TV. The remote won't work because the TV thinks that you are using the manual buttons on the front, and the manual buttons override the remote. Have the front button panel replaced....it's under $200.00 - or you could solder the switches apart and just use the remote.

Remote will not function with TV

If two remotes do not work. I would say the IR sensor on the front panel of the TV might be defective.
Can you provide an exact TV model number to try to locate an IR sensor part suppier?
