Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

No home menu,black screen,no reaction

When i turn on my ps3 there is nothing on the screen.It just shows me resolution in left upper corner 576p and it stays black.if I try to turn it off it makes three bip sounds and I need to hold finger for a long time to switch it off.I can't turn it on using joystick because it is not reacting.I have tried to connect joystick via cable but it is same reaction-no reaction at all.I have tried to unplug it from the wall and to leave it for a few minutes but it's allways same thing.Before it was black I could see Home menu background but there was no home menu.Then I read on internet that if i wanted to restore original settings I should switch it on and hold my finger on it for at least 5 sec.I did it and it went black.Even with home menu background it didn't react at all.Can you help me please?Thanks.

I think i've found the easiest, hassle-free and no-cost solution. I phoned Sony Customer Support and the person i spoke to was really polite and organised a 'striaight-swap' console-for-console. They are sending a courier to my house with a new ps3 with the 40gb hard drive, similar to that in my 'damaged' console.

They said dont give them any cables, games or even the hard drive which you can take out and keep- they are quite literally swapping my old machine for a new one, which comes with a pre-fitted hdd.

I phoned them on Monday and they said it would arrive sometime on Thursday.

I strongly suggest anyone with this kind of problem to do the same - after all, no extra costs are required, only a few days without your console.

Blu ray shows the "Blu ray Disc" Logo on TV screen and then just show a black creen

Hi! and welcome to Fixya!

It looks like your tv is unable to handle the output video resolution from your bluray. The reason why you do not have picture on the tv screen after the bluray disc logo appears.

You can follow the instruction below to set the video resolution on your player to its lowest resolution:

1. Using your bluray remote control, press the following buttons in order... STOP button (press and release) ....HOME button (press and release)....POP UP/MENU button ( press and release )
Note: press the buttons in order with 1 second interval. Make sure tv and bluray are ON when you try this. If first attempt nothing happens, try this again.

2. When the home menu screen appears after doing the above instruction, you can set the video resolution again manually. Follow the instruction:
Using the BD remote control press HOME button > then go to SETUP > select screen settings > then change OUTPUT VIDEO RESOLUTION to Auto > change also 24P OUT to 1080P // set the BD-ROM 24P OUTPUT to Auto

The next time you turn on the bluray player you will have picture again.

Let me know if this works!

Why a black screen on xps l701x w7 i7 1.73

Black screen - no flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - no picture at all, i.e. the initial Dell start-up screen doesn't show up either:
- LCD is dead or isn't getting a signal - not an easy fix; or
- the LCD isn't being sent a signal - holding down the function [Fn] key and press display Function key to toggle through its settings (LCD panel only, Rear VGA output only, both LCD and VGA output)

Black screen - flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - the screen goes black after the windows loading screens come up but before the windows login screen comes up - it is probably a windows video driver problem. Try starting in Windows Safe Mode with VGA. Press [F8] after the Dell startup screen disappears to access the windows startup menu

Hi, i also had this problem with mine.You hold your finger on the power button for about 5 seconds. After two beeps it resets it to the RCA cable format. When the HDMI cable is connected, the PS3 automatically adjusts it's resolution. But when you go back to regular cable it doesnt do it automatically, you have to do it manually.

Take care.

Move the mouse so it is way, way down in the lower right corner. Place a penny or dime on the mousepad touching the upper left corner of the mouse. Pull the mouse diagonally down to the right a distance equal to the diameter of the coin. Then back up to the coin.

Right Click

Take your hand off the mouse because the rest is on the keyboard.

up <arrow>

<Enter>

hold <Shift> press <Tab>

right <Arrow> 10 times.

<Tab>

left <arrow> (decreases resolution, right arrow to increase)

<Enter>

By the by if you can find a monitor that will accept the resolution you selected on the 'Properties' window you can switch it back the normal way

My blu ray disk is only displayed in left corner of the screen

This is a long shot, but try going through the dvd/ blu ray settings in your settings menu. I don't have my PS3 handy to tell you exactly where that setting is located, mine is still in the shop. But I remember there being an option for a full screen display of the blu ray menu. Give that a try. Hope that helped.

Ps3 defaults to 576p when connected through onkyo 606 receiver

You have to tell the PS3 what the Okyo can do and it probably cannot do 1080P 60Hz (but can likely do 1080P 24Hz).  Try ticking more resolutions in the PS3s setup
