The PSP has no battery and I am trying to use it while it is connected to the ac adapter/charger, it also has a 4GB memory stick in it. Whenever I turn the PSP on it goes to the initial setup screen where you set the time and date, then it goes to the home screen with all the different system options. When I insert a UMD to try and play, it just shuts off and when I try to turn it on again it comes on for about 1 second and shuts back off. After a few tries, I remove the UMD and turn it on and it goes back to the initial setup. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I already tried to reset to default settings, tested the laser/reader (it works fine) and pushed the laser over closer to the spinner (nothing happened). Do I need the battery for it to work?

You've cleaned the disks but have you cleaned the laser? That'd be the next step before looking @ repair options.
