Question about Garmin zumo 665 GPS Receiver

Open Question

Purchased a new Harley Davidson Zumo 665 with XM, handlebar mount and radio interface connections (all HD dealer items). The unit started freezing and turning off without warning day one (immediate black screen). I got a replacement unit from Garmin (warranty) and the new unit is doing the same thing. Replaced the cradle and it worked for the first day without noticeable issues but yesterday it started doing the same thing again after the screen calibration when I turned it on. The unit will now turn off within 10 seconds of powering it on while on the Harley cradle. The battery is fully charged and it works fine in automobile mode using the automobile mount. The XM will play through the ear bud and stereo and the radio mutes when voice map commands come through the ear bud. I do not have a SIM card or music, or photos downloaded to the unit. Garmin confirmed the unit does have the latest map and program software installed. What should I check next?

SOURCE: my zumo won't power on

This sometimes happens if the cradle is owered while you connect the zumo...i guess it hits some wrong contacts first and goes bonkers. I'd advise th zumo users to pack a small allen screw bit to unscrew the battery, just in case it freezes or blacks out again....better safe than lost in the middle of nowhere!

SOURCE: My Garmin Nuvi 260 is frozen on the Garmin screen

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.

Hello,

The microphone input from the Zumo 665 motorcycle mounting cradle is the smaller 2.5mm jack.
Be sure to use this one as some microphone jacks will require a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter.
The audio output is the 3.5mm jack.
Be sure not to confuse the two.
It may be necessary to have a custom 5 or 7 pin DIN adapter made to connect between the GW audio system and the Zumo.
It would be best to consult with your local Honda GoldWing dealer for more information on interfacing the GW audio system.

I have a garmin 655 zuma i have the xm, use it on my harley ,,,,want to use it also in my motor home but my radio dont have a plug in it for the audo,,,how can i do this ???? Thanks Gene

Hello,

I would recommend using one of the many FM transmitters that are available on the market and plug the Zumo 665 into it using the audio out port. The audio can then received by the FM radio in the motor home. This is assuming that the radio in the motor home has a FM receiver.

How do I Install a '96 Harley radio into a '99 Harley Davidson FLHTPI? And how do I get the wiring schematics for the '99 Harley Davidson FLHTPI?

96 mounting and wiring will be completely different. The handlebar controls on the 99 will not function on the 96 radio.
Search HD forums for the wiring diagram or buy then from harley

If there is no audio, the radio is locked on an fm station with preset 1 highlighted, and no control from the handlebar or face, the TMS 320 processor is locked. The radio cannot be repaired. try to get your HD dealer to exchange it.

New Harman/Kardon radios come blank from H-D however, and currently the dealers are the only ones who can calibrate/program them properly.
Check with your local Harley-Davidson dealer to see if they are willing to help get your new radio programmed before you install it on your bike.

Trying to add more audio equipment to my Pioneer Nav stereo

The Avic N2 is only XM ready not Sirius ready like the N3, which is SAT ready(both XM and Sirius). If you must have your Sirius the only option left for you is use the rear input on the hide away unit but you won't have it on the touchscreen. There is one more expensive option by have your N2 hardware upgrade to N3, some Ebayer have that service offer for about $275. It's done by replace a surface mounted chip with 70 plus leads. That would take some expert de-solder and solder skill with a solder torch or
a tech's heat gun. I can do it but I don't know which chip it is. I have an immaculate N3 for sale on Ebay. Maybe you could sell your N2 and buy an N3. I usually get about $550-$650 for an N2 depend on the condition. Hope that I did some help. You can call me at 801-414-4566, I would do anything I can. Goodluck.
