Question about Refrigerators
Freezer unit works well. Refrigerator section too cold. Temp. control for freezer adjusts properly. Frig. section temp. stays same (very cold) even when set at minimum. Frost Free works well. Housing for freezer dial removed and cold air supply from freezer to frig. works properly. Cover for frig dial removed. All wires connected. What do I do next. It has been an excellent unit for 20 years and I don't want to buy a new frig for a few more years.PS I can't afford one right now.

Setting it to 5 is what the manufacturer recommends. If you set it to 1 and the frig is still not cold, then you probably have a faulty cold control (thermostat)

All refrigerators also have a return air vent. You need to make sure this is not blocked by frost, the units own foam insulation or even by product placement. You should find it behind the crispers in the bulkhead between the freshfood and freezer compartments. You also want to verify the supply duct behind the damper is not blocked.

Whats happening is the defrost heater has failed. It is causing ice to build in the freezer and that is stopping ice production and fresh food chilling. Solution: Remove panel to evaporator and replace heater. Use hair dryer to melt ice. I have your repair manual: HERE
An air conditioning heating and ventilation expert named Dr Z normally makes HVAC videos but his neighbor's ice box did the same as yours and he had a chance to check it out and made this short film.He calls it his HVAC Refrigerator repair I thought it was pretty cool, cause it gives a good idea what is involved in this repair.
