Kenmore lid switch and model number confusion

I have a problem with the lid switch on a Kenmore washer, 111-24622300. I have tracked down a part number for a lid switch for the 110-24622300 model. Is this the same thing? Should I go out and buy it?

SOURCE: how do I get to the lid switch to replace it on my washer

Pull of the end caps #14 & 11 on the diagram. Remove the screws and the front panel will flip up. Then there are 2 clips connecting the bac to the cabimet. Snap those out and the the WHOLE front of the machine comes off if you tilt it forward. Go to and parts to bring up any model for anything and you can kind of see how things go together. Good luck.

SOURCE: can't get top off kenmore washer model # 110 22852 100

No problem. What you want to do is this, remove the screws from the back panel first to remove that metal plate protecting the wires. Once off you need to take off the two covers on the sides of the control panel. There is one on each side, just pop them off. Once off you will see there is a screw under there holding the control panel in place. Remove the screws and that will lean back. Next take a flat head screw driver and put it under the lip of the lid on the front of the washer. I mean the lip that is about an inch down from the top on the front. Pry up and the whole lid will pop up. You will see the lid switch there held in by a screw, follow the wire to where it plugs in and unplug it and replace with the new one. Let me know if you have any other questions and if this was helpful to you. Always happy to help and good luck.

Kenmore Washer 70 series Model #110.22722100 won't spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

The contact button (part where you put the door down to make the washer start to agitate) something came apart....washer is filled with water and now won't go. The part came out.

you broke the lid switch, send the full model number located under the lid, lift the lid up,follow the lid to the bottom and look right under it and you'll see the model number,it will start with like 110.

Washer starts to fill whith water then stops .

next time send the model number so i can look up you machine,i can give you the part number and price.if it's a top load washer set the timer on spin, open the lid and with a screw driver push down on the lid switch, you'll see a hole in the top of the frame and a strike on the lid the strike pushes down on the lid switch and sends power to the washer, the factory doesn't want the washer to run if the lid is opened,if it starts to spin then you have a bad lid switch, the switch could be totally broken so if it doesn't run the easiest way to check the switch is to push down and the up on the switch if it makes a clicking sound the switch is good,no clicking the switch is bad.this is a common problem, let me know if this is it.if it isn't the problem send the model number.thanks.

The machine suddenly stop working right after finishing water had filled (the next action should start its washing cycle). Then there is no response, just as electricity is disconnected from it. Thank...

try opening the lid a couple of inches and close it down a few times,do you hear a clicking sound?if not the lid switch is bad.on the right side of the lid you should see a piece of plastic connected to the lid that fits into a hole in the top of the washer, this hits the lid switch, stick a pen or something in the hole and see if the washer works, send the model number and i'll tell you what switch you have on your washer, the model number is on the back wall of the opening where you put the clothes into the washer or to the left of the lid switch.if your lid opens strait up and backwards the number is directly under the lid when it's in the open position

Does the washer fill? Does it agitate at all? Does it stop suddenly when it gets to the spin cycle? You may have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (Part number 3949238). For instructions on how to replace a lid switch, click on the following link:

If the washer does not agitate at all, but will still drain, the problem may be your motor coupling. Click on this link for instructions on how to replace a motor coupling:

The part can be located under the "Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump" heading as item number 13 (Part number 285753A). NOTE: If the coupler is bad, the washer will made a loud rattling noise when it starts to agitate. The washer will STILL drain, however. There also may be black filings under the washer.

Neither one of these repairs are that difficult, nor are they expensive. You may find these parts cheaper at Just use the part numbers provided.

I posted both links to save the time on having to post comments back and forth. Use your abilities to determine what the washer is (or isn't) doing. If you are confused by the symptoms and/or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS If you are in the habit of placing items on your washer lid (like detergent bottles or clothes baskets, etc.), the lid can bend or bow. This can also cause the same symptoms of a bad lid switch. All you have to do is open the lid and pop it back the other way from the bottom. I've seen it happen before and should have charged the customer for a service call according to company policy, but didn't. I mention it because, appliance repair companies can (and will) charge you for this repair just for touching the machine.

Okay...I'm a little confused on your symptoms. You initially said it fills, but doesn't agitate or spin, but drains.

Then, you finished with the washer filling, no agitate or spin, but now doesn't drain.

Which one is it?

The symptoms you describe are usually associated with the following:

1. Fills, may or may not agitate, won't spin or drain - lid switch.
2. Fills, may or may not agitate, won't spin, but still drains - motor coupling.
3. Fills, may or may not agitate, won't spin or spins slow - gear case.
4. Fills, agitates, spins, but does not drain – water pump.

NOTE: These are the more common failure items with these symptoms.

Double check the lid switch by opening and closing the lid. You should hear a clicking noise to indicate the switch is working. The switch is located under the top panel along the wash tub rim on the right-hand side. If not, check to make sure the lid strike (small plastic piece on the lid itself) is in place. This activates the lid switch when the lid is closed. Also, check the mounting screws along the rim (there are two of them) to see if they are tight.

If the motor coupling were bad, the washer would still drain, but there would be a rattling sound as the washer tries to spin or agitate.

If you need replacement parts, go to and type in your model number in the "Search by Model Number" window. The lid switch can be found under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (part #3949238). Instructions on how to replace are located at the following link:

If you wish to replace the motor coupling, the part can be found under the “Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump” heading as item number 13 (part #285753A). If you need instructions on how to replace, just follow this link:

Now, there’s a couple of ways to drain the washer. If it’s a simple lid switch problem, you don’t need to drain the washer to replace the switch. With a broken switch repaired, the washer will run and drain by itself. However, if you wish to drain the tub you can use a shop vac to pull a vacuum on the drain hose. This may take a few times depending on the size of the shop vac. These wash tubs typically have about a 35 gallon capacity. If you do not own a shop vac, you can by-pass the lid switch by jumpering the two BLACK wires at the lid switch connector that is connected to the console. CAUTION: Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before jumpering, then plug back in.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If I’m wrong about the symptoms, please post back and update me on what the washer is or is not doing, so I can assist you further.
