Sorry, missed this one. Is it worth fixing? I'll let you decide Mark; The problem is the graphics chipset. More specifically the mounting of the graphics chipset; and more specifically; the cooling for the graphics chipset. Let's regress for a moment; and catch up the technology I just named; Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C. Integrated Circuit, The I.C., or chipset used for graphics is a GPU, Graphics Processing Unit, As far as I can tell the GPU used is Integrated Graphics. ATI Radeon Mobility HD4250. Part of the GPU is in the AMD M880G motherboard chipset, and part is in the G84-600-A2 graphics chipset,

The graphics chipset is mounted to the motherboard, with a BGA surface mount. Ball Grid Array. To explain the BGA surface mount, let's use an older Intel Pentium 4 processor, that uses a Socket 478 processor socket, The bottom of the processor has Contact Pins. 478 of 'em. The processor socket has 478 matching socket holes. With a BGA surface mount, there are no contact pins. In place of them are Solder Balls. In place of the socket holes, are matching Copper Pads, on the motherboard. (They are also gold plated ) The graphics chipset is set into place on the motherboard, with the Solder Balls lining up on the matching Copper Pads. Heat is applied at a Specific temperature, and length of time. This action melts the Solder Balls, and solders the graphics chipset TO the matching Copper Pads. (Which in turn solders the graphics chipset TO the motherboard) With inadequate cooling for the graphics chipset, the graphics chipset repeatedly overheats. This softens the solder joints made. (Solder connections) Then the laptop is turned off, and the solder joints cool down, and re-solidify. THIS causes Cold Solder Joints, and a poor contact of graphics chipset TO motherboard. SO,........the repair is NOT to simply have the graphics chipset PROPERLY reflowed, (BGA Rework Station), bit to also add more surface area, to the small metal plate of the Cooling Tube. Otherwise the SAME problem will occur again. The cooling components for the laptop are; 1) Cooling Tube: Slightly flattened copper tube, sealed on both ends, and filled with Nitrogen. 2) Heatsink: Small thin piece of metal, that has Tall, Thin fins protruding from it. 3) Fan Assembly: Small multi-bladed fan inside a D-shaped shroud. Here you see a view of it upside down. It turns over, and mounts. In the front you see the D-shaped Fan Assembly. At the very front of it, is the rectangular finned Heatsink. From the Fan Assembly you see the copper Cooling Tube, and it's attached small metal plates in different shapes. The 'Arrow Head' shape sits on the GPU. (Graphics chipset) The 'Tablet' shape that is on the copper Cooling Tube, and closest to the Fan Assembly; sits on the Processor. The Processor socket is dark Gray(?) with a smaller rectangular hole in it. (And full of socket holes) To the Right of it is the graphics chipset. In retrospect it looks as though BOTH the graphics chipset metal area of the Cooling Tube, and Processor metal area on the Cooling Tube; need to be increased in surface area. Here is one tech's method of doing that. Laptop shown is HP Pavilion dv6000 series. Posted for Reference, and NOT advertising, Also, watch a BGA Rework Station in action, and learn more about the BGA surface mount, Scroll down, and click on the Red - Take a few minutes to view the IR 650 demo video. PLUS; wear an ESD wrist strap. Electro Static Discharge. Your body carries Static electricity, and if you don't wear one, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source, you will fry out (Short Circuit) the laptop; and turn it into an expensive doorstop. Average cost is $3 to $6. Set a large metal serving tray on the table you're working on, and connect to it. (Unpainted) Or a large metal knickknack. What processor for dell inspiron m5030,and how to replace, the 7 beep code heard says cpu failure?

I would confirm it is faulty first. I have been in the electronics industry working with processors for years and have never come across a faulty processor!. Is the oscillator running? Has it got 3v3 supply?
If you feel the need to replace it, take the old one out and order the exact part number that is printed on the processor.
Seven beeps is usually a RAM failure.

Laptop beeps 7 times

Try link: How to identify beep codes: When a laptop or computer first powers on, it goes through an initial set of diagnostic tests to make sure vital components are preforming correctly. These tests are called POST or Power On Self Test. When a test fails, the user is notified via POST codes, Light codes, or Beep codes. For diagnosing Beep codes you need to:
  • Power on the laptop or restart it if it is already on.
  • Listen to the number of consecutive beeps when the computer begins to boot. Restarting the laptop may be necessary and should not harm the laptop at this time.

M5030 won't start,just beeps 7 times.

This is a motherboard and power supply issue - you most likely cannot fix it yourself. I have attached a link where someone got their system back up temporarily, but it won't last. You need to replace the motherboard ASAP.

Dell inspiron 1545 14 beeps (more details inside).

This indicates a motherboard issue, sub out the ram memory one at a time, test each as you go, if no change! The motherboard will need to be replaced, or the laptop.

Dell inspiron p10f001 no booting 7 time beep coming

Seven beeps indicates a general exception error. This AMI beep code could be caused by an expansion card problem, a motherboard hardware issue, or a damaged CPU. Replacing the faulty hardware usually fixes the cause of this beep code.

My Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop is not even a year old and the screen has been blacking out, to where I have to restart the computer to make my normal screen come back. This has been going on for at least 6...

This is really a tough call, by rights this laptop should have gone back to Dell for repair or exchange because the problem can only get worse, I assume you have a one year warranty on the item. This might sound crazy, can you afford a cheap laptop? even if you found a good second hand laptop until your Dell is properly serviced. Then when you get it back and you are satisfied with it sell your other one off. The only other option is hook a spare monitor to the video output on the back of the Dell laptop to see if the same problem exists, if not! if proves the problem is in the screen of your LCD and it might be just a loose video cable that is attached from the motherboard to the screen display. I don't no what else to suggest to you, unless you can rent one and make Dell pay for the down time that you don't have it, "just a thought" I wish you luck.

Just upgraded Vista to Windows 7. Now when computer boots, it repeatedly beeps (so many times I can't count them), then asks which OS I want to start with. Only Windows 7 is listed. It starts fine.

Hello, if your computer peeps on startup it could be that your keyboard is stuck somehow thats why it beeps, it is sending and interupt request. try checking your keyboard to be sure its not stuck. happy new year

I bought an HP Pav dv5 for a womens shelter where i volunteer, when you try to turn it on all it will do is beep 3 times,it is 1 year old,hp told me the problem is the motherboard, can fix it?

That sounds right, if the screen doesnt come on and it beeps. it probably is an issue with the motherboard..

If its only a year old, you may still be under the extended warranty.

You should go to the link below, and enter your information to see if its still under warranty.
