My sony wega keeps cutting off then coming back .

a couple of years old can be a long time:

has the TV been on 24\7

It's the amount of hours that matters..

electrolytic capacitors typically last 3000 to 5000 hours....

Special "long life" caps last close to 7000
but the caps in most consumer electronics, even broadcast equipment 3-5K hours.

I have pretty much the same problem that everyone else is having red standby light flashing back to red instead of turning green and powering up the tv screen the only thing I've done different is mount it...

I did it tonight, worked on the Akai for two hours. I don't have any electronics experience and just followed what these guys did and spent less that $20 for parts and supplies from Radio Shack. Bought three different capacitors, mine was 1000uf 35wvdc 85+, a solder kit, and a desoldering vacuum tool. My soldering wasn't the best, actually the worst I have ever seen but I figured if it doesn't work, I could care less anymore. Apparently it worked. My first TV fix and i made it work! Sharp tv

First do a hard reset by unplugging it for a couple hours, then plug it in and try again to power it on. If no change, or power light just flickers then goes off again, your power supply may need rebuilt or replaced. Try this reset first, post back if no change.

Akai TV troubleshooting

I have the same problem. My Akai 27" flat screen shuts off inconsistantly. Sometimes it will stay on for hours and then we have to turn in on every 2 minutes. It seems to be getting worse. Is there anyone who has found a way to fix this?
