I did it tonight, worked on the Akai for two hours. I don't have any electronics experience and just followed what these guys did and spent less that $20 for parts and supplies from Radio Shack. Bought three different capacitors, mine was 1000uf 35wvdc 85+, a solder kit, and a desoldering vacuum tool. My soldering wasn't the best, actually the worst I have ever seen but I figured if it doesn't work, I could care less anymore. Apparently it worked. My first TV fix and i made it work! Follow the instruction here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t1661054-akai_lcd_tv_power_light_stays_red_turn
First do a hard reset by unplugging it for a couple hours, then plug it in and try again to power it on. If no change, or power light just flickers then goes off again, your power supply may need rebuilt or replaced. Try this reset first, post back if no change.
I have the same problem. My Akai 27" flat screen shuts off inconsistantly. Sometimes it will stay on for hours and then we have to turn in on every 2 minutes. It seems to be getting worse. Is there anyone who has found a way to fix this?
I looked about an hour to find a factory service or parts # for ya But to my surprise I found 0 . I wouldnt through out the set yet. See if you can find the owners manual and there has to be a contact # bin there or go back to wjere you bought the set. Sorry i tryed . Good Luck
