DVD playback colors swapped problem

I haven't seen a specific reference to my particular problem, so here goes: I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ260E laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium with an installed Matsushita (?) DVD Blu-Ray drive. When I try to playback DVD's (either commercial or home recorded) the colors are swapped (skin is blue, sky is orange, etc). Doesn't matter what playback software I use (Intervideo WinDVD, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, Power DVD, etc) the results are the same. But I can playback downloaded video from various sources, including in iTunes, and watching streaming video is fine as well. I have updated my drivers and my laptop with all available updates from Sony - no joy. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement...Help please!

Yesterday I came across a website that I experienced the same problem with. It was a TV site in the UK, but the streaming video exhibited the same color swap problem. Although I have been to other sites in the UK that didn't have the problem. This sort of says that it's not a hardware problem with my drive. Could it have anything to do with the way Windows interprets dvd playback - like DirectX or something?

  • Lucy7 Jan 13, 2009

I tried both of those suggestions, but neither helped. Thank you for trying, though. It's very frustrating.

  • Lucy7 Jan 13, 2009

Sorry - that didn't help, either. I changed the resolution to 1600 x 1200, which is the highest it would go, no change. Still wonky colors....

Hi Lucy7

Sounds like the drive is bad. Try the drive in a different computer, If the same thing happens, replace the drive. If it works, then you have bad wiring or another component may be bad as the streaming works, the player sounds like the one to be faulty.

Hi,
It might be a problem with Windows Media Players DVD filter in the Registry.
Try installing Windows Media Player 11 and rebooting.

Hope this helps

Hello and welcome to FixYa!,

It sounds like a faulty Blu-ray DVD Player is installed! It will need to be replaced...
It may also be a Corrupted Driver or Unknown Driver- Please Re-install the driver onto The Laptop.

If these Don't work - Look on the manufacturers Site for an Update or Patch!

Hope this helps --P3NGYJ03

Welcome to Fixya! You will have to get the Eye Replaced in that Player. It is not reading your Movies Correctly. Could even be Cheaper to get a New one. The movies that you get from the Internet on Direct downloads will not be Affected in the Situation. Let me know what you decide!

How restar a vaio sony vgn-t370p

Laptops require specific drives, you can probably find one for cheap on eBay. To remove the optical drive, flip the laptop over and locate the screw with a CD icon next to it. It will typically be about 3-4" in from where the DVD drive is.

How much the price of vaio sonny lop top thanks a lot.

I'm glad to provide the price of the VAIO Notebook. Please click hear to view the price of the Notebook.

However, I have seen the same model with white color with a little low price. The only difference between E/P and E/W is it's color and P refers to Pink and W Refers to White.
Click hear to view the price of the E/W from Sony itself.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.

System crashed replaced hard drive now trying to load windows 7 but after bios loads we get a really weird glitchey screen and it says 'Operating System not found'

That message is because there is no OS on the disk. Press OK to agree the notice and then load the System Disk in your DVD drive and boot from there.

I have a sony vaio fz260e. I blew dust out of it today through the vents using a canister of air. Now the fan does not come on.

The fan only comes on when needed,, when you first turn the laptop on it will come on for a sec<--test this!!

if it comes on in the test your good,, dust will make the fan run all the time..

If it dont come on in the test and it worked b4 its jamed with a ball of dust,, fix asap or the fan will burn out!!
