How do I troubleshoot my dell studio 1749 computer's wireless card that does not show up when f2 is pressed

LOL, good ole Windows 7, it loses devices just like Windows Vista.

Try downloading and reinstalling the drivers.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "DellSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers. If after reinstalling the drivers the problem still exists. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the battery, turn the laptop over and start removing the screws from the cover that houses the wireless card. Once you find the wireless card, remove the screw or screws that hold it in place and take the wireless out of the slot. Also remove the antennas from the wirles card (black and white cables). Then but the antennas back on, put the wireless card back into the slot, and reboot and see if it's recognized and works.

I would take it back to the shop, and ask if the wireless antenna connections are installed tightly (And correctly) on the wireless module.

[ The wireless module is located towards the bottom of the laptop. With some laptop models the wireless antenna leads are connected directly to the Display Assembly, and have to be 'fished' up out of the body of the laptop.

When the Display Assembly is reinstalled the leads (Wires) have to be fished back down through the laptop, and connected (Properly) to the Wireless Module.

An example using a Dell Studio 1555 Notebook PC,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/how-to-disassemble-dell-studio-1555-laptop/

Observe Steps 13 through 18.

It may be that the operating system had to be repaired, and drivers were lost.
(Windows XP, and Windows 7 are two examples of an O/S)

Internet Explorer cannot display webpage. I have a Dell Laptop Studio 1500 Home premium with Vista x64 bit.

Hi,

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again. Also please remember to turn on the switch or use a keyboard toggle to turn on the wireless radio.

If the connection is wired just uninstall the network driver.

Good luck

Dual boot vista/XP on dell studio 1737, drivers needed ?

For the video drivers you might try the intel generic drivers for xp these should work here is the process.

For the audio use the latest vista driver and then follow the steps here.

The latest driver in combination with f you are using Microsoft Windows XP*, you may need to first install KB888111.exe, the Microsoft* UAA High Definition Audio Package version 1.0a. should work.
