you will need to install the modem driver please check the model no and the modem that you have on the system, select appropriate os and download the appropriate driver from dell support site.
If you can figure out which modem is in your system and you haven't ever replaced it please call Dell tech support and provide your system service tag they will be able to help you with this aslo you can check your system configuration on the site itself if you have the service tag ready. check dell system configuration
enter the service tag and check under original system configuration will be listed as MDM

SOURCE: device manager shows a big question mark on multimedia audio controller and PCI simple communications controller, dont know manufacturer to find correct driver, let me know how to find manufacturer of
when there is a yellow question mark on a device , it means the device is detected but unknown, but if there is question mark and exclamation mark on it, it means it is recognised but no driver to make it work.

Go to the Sharp WEB site to download the Windows XP or Vista driver for the device you require. If you have problems identifying the driver you require, send an e-mail to their support. Use this link to get to Sharp support. http://www.sharpusa.com/products/support/0,2309,,00.html

SOURCE: emachine t3418
e-machines are only a brand-name Of computer.
If you have a close look at your motherboard, and find the board number ( sometimes by the Ram Slots ) and with e-machines theres usually a piece of paper with a number on.
I,ll assume that your board is Foxconn. Your better off going to Foxconns site, and downloading the drivers from there. The drivers your missing are Base-system drivers. If you Have A VIA Chipset on the motherboard. You,ll probably download The VIA 4 in 1 driver, this should solve your problems.
Alternatively, if you,ve installed Windows XP, ensure you have SP2 And SP3 installed Also.
