Question about Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera

Canon G9 - image disappears

Have had a Canon G9 for a couple of months.  No problems until today. When I put the camera in review mode, the captured image disappears from the LCD screen after 1-2 seconds.  It's acting as if the battery ran out.  I rechecked the battery/changed it/recharged.  Could it be the memory card?  Or the camera itself?

If you go to display and click down to "review" you should be able to set the review time to what you would like. The default may be 102 seonds. This should work and check the manual

Camera not displaying images as seen through viewfinder. The screen is black. Image controls and info can be seen but the picture is just black. Takes photos which are also black; but previous photos...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, particularly for the SD1000. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

By the way, my wife's SD1000 also has this problem every once in a while. I easily fix it by using the following steps from the link: powering on the camera, opening and closing the battery door, and flicking the end of the lens barrel with my fingertip (or you can tap it with a pencil as discussed in the link).

My Canon G9 review function does not work. It flashes the last picture taken only.

It is not the problem with the camera. When the last picture is displayed, you can turn the control dial (the vertical ring around the four-way directional buttons) or use the right and left arrows to navigate to the previous or next image.

I am buying a Canon SD970 IS digital camera. What

I would recommend you to buy Canon PowerShot SX210IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 14x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD. Decidedly slim and sleekly refined, the PowerShot SX210 IS packs a feature set that reads like a wish list. The 14.1 Megapixel CCD joins a 14x 28mm Wide-Angle Zoom for imaging power to spare. Frame your shots in the bright 3.0-inch widescreen PureColor System LCD, with the Low Light mode for sharp images in dimly-lit situations. It also captures stunning HD movies with Dynamic mode for enhanced image stabilization when shooting movies using wide-angle settings. Capture smooth HD video (720p) with stereo sound for a truly natural, high-quality HD experience. The PowerShot SX210 IS not only goes wherever you do, but takes your photography and video to a whole new place, too. Nikon D50 is not taking images although it makes the capture / shutter sound. Not able to review on playback or see when downloading to a computer

Double check that the memory card is inserted correctly. If so then I would remove the battery from the camera, give it about 10 seconds and put the battery back in.

If after turning the camera back on the unit will not take pictures, go to the system menu in the camera and format the memory card. If it does not work at this point, either the data writer in the camera is faulty or the memory card is defective.

RAW images won't upload

Are you using the camera to upload the photos? I recommend that you get a SDHC reader(USB) and copy the files off of the SD card onto your harddrive. it is a common problem that RAW images cannot be read by windows or certain programs. Photoshop CS3 and later are able to read and open the RAW images from this camera if your "camera raw" portion of adobe is current. it is good practice anyway to load your photos directly from the SD card. I had a G9 since it first came out and now i have a G10--i have never even attempted to upload from the camera. don't let this discourage you from shooting RAW because it is the primary reason in my opinion for owning a G9 or G10. Let me know if this does not answer your problem...dj

Canon g9 image size

Are you looking at multiple pictures in the play mode? If so select one image and you should go back to the standard method of right and left clicking the dial. The mode your in you can use the scroll wheel to breeze through images.

Blank black screen for my canon powershot S1 IS digital camera

This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.
