Please explain how you do ratios

A ratio can be simplified by dividing both sides of the ratio by the Highest Common Factor (HCF). The highest common factor is the largest number that goes into both numbers of your ratio. In example 1 you are asked to simplify the ratio 6:8. Here the HCF is 2 so divide both sides of the ratio by 2 to give 3:4.

1.71 to 4.56 ratio simpify

1.71/4.56 ratio simplified.

First, let's clean it up by multiplying top (numerator) and bottom (denominated) by 100. Now we have 171/456.

Next, I use an old trick. If you add up the digits in a number and the answer is divisible by 3, the number is divisible by 3.

1+7+1 = 9 and 9 is evenly divisible by 3, so 171 is divisible by 3.

Similarly, with 456, 4+5+6 = 15 and 3 goes evenly into 15, so 3 goes in evenly to 15. Alternatively, we can take the answer 15, and go 1+5 = 6 and 3 goes evenly into 6 so 3 goes evenly into 456.

171 ÷ 3 = 57
----- ----
456 ÷ 3 = 152

Since is 57, 5+7 = 12 and 1+2 =3, 3 goes into 57 19 times.
Since 152 is even, factors are 2 and 76. Factoring 76, 2 and 38. Factoring 38, 2 and 19. So 152 is 2 x 2 x 2 x 19.

Since 19 is common, we can divide top (numerator) and bottom (denominated) by 19.

57 ÷ 19 = 3
--- ----
152 ÷ 19 = 8

Thus, the final answer is 3/8.

Alternatively, you can factor 171 and 456 and divide by the highest common factor, which are the factors that are common to both.

Regular pentagon QRSTU has a side length of 12 cm and an area of about 248 square cm. Regular pentagon VWXYZ has a perimeter of 140 cm. Find the area of VWXYZ. Round to the nearest tenth.

The two pentagons are similar. If k is the scale factor for the lengths, the ratio of the areas is k^2.
Pent 1 side =12 cm
Pent 2 side =140/5 =28 cm
Scale factor (larger over smaller) is k=28/12=7/3
Area of Pent_2= (49/9)*Area of Pent_1
Your answer should be C.

Hi, Bradx for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix/test or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. I need to know how to convert 11390cm cubed into metres cubed

Your calculator may or may not have a program for unit conversion, but the best method is to understand the metric system so you can do these conversions without a calculator. A meter is the same as 100 centimeters, so divide 11390 by 100 to get 113.90 m^3.

Rather than relying on a calculator, I highly recommend taking the time to practice metric conversions. It is very common for high school and even college professors to try and trick you by, for example, requesting the answer in centimeters when the question is in meters.

Open following link to identify TM311 timer:

1) First of all, you would need more turquoise 107TN222 ON and red 107TN221 OFF trippers.

2) BUT big problem is that TN311 time dial is divided into half-hour segments, so minimum on-off is probably 1 hour since it takes 2 trippers for on-off cycle, and width of 2 trippers is same width as 1 hour.

3) Open following link for plug-in timers with 15 minute segments shows Woods 49664 & Stanley 31192 & Sylvania SA110

4) Notice the 49664 dial, that each hour is represented by 4 segments. This says timer on-off period is 15 minutes.

To set this timer, you would pull up all segments around the dial, and then push down 1 segment for each hour that you want timer to turn on for 15 minutes.

5) TN311 has 3 prong grounded outlet, Woods 49664 has 2-prong outlet.

6) Stanley 31192 timer and Sylvania SA110 have 3-prong grounded outlets and 15 minute intervals.

7) You cannot accomplish 15 minutes intervals for 12 periods a day with programmable digital timer.
Most digital timers allow 1 minute program times, but are limited to 6 or 7 programs, and not the 12 separate on-off periods needed for your project.

Please assist me in setting this light timer. brinks-42-1020

Instructions for Brinks 42-1020
1) There are plastic segments located around outer edge of timer dial.
These segments divide each hour into 15 minute periods.
Push segments down like a piano key for all hours you want timer ON-or-OFF
2) Push switch to Auto ON -or- Timer
3) Turn lamp ON, make sure bulb is working, plug lamp into timer.
4) Plug timer into wall.
Manually rotate timer dial clockwise to observe light turning on-off.
This action will say if light is ON when segments are up or down.
5) Unplug timer, and set segments for times you want lamp to turn on-off.
6) Rotate timer dial clockwise until current time lines up with arrowhead located on inner dial
7) Plug timer back into outlet. Dial rotates as time passes, segments click a switch that turns lamp on-and-off.

The ratio of a to b is 2 to 5 and the ratio of b to c is 3 to 4, what is the ratio of a to c

To solve this, you need to multiply the ratios together.
(2/5)*(3/4) = A/C
So (2*3)/(5*4) = A/C
6/20 = A/C
You can reduce that be dividing both sides by 2
3/10 = A/C

Here is an example:
Let X = 3
The problem states that A/B = 2/5
So let A = 2X & B = 5X
A = 2*(3) = 6
B = 5*(3) = 15
Now check the ratio: 6/15 = 2/5. The same as what was given.
Now lets look at the ratio for B/C. The given ratio for B/C was 3/4
Using the value of B that we just solved we get:
B = 15
C = (4/3)*15 = 20
Check the ratio.
15/20 = 3/4
Now we have the values for each of the variables
A = 6
B = 15
C = 20
The ratio of A/C is 6/20
6/20 can be reduced to 3/10 be dividing both numbers by 2

Need help with an assignment for a college paper. need to specify why hypothetical students made the mistakes in division and what the mistakes are and what feedback could be given. the ex. are 2388...

It would seem to me that the answer was found at a grade 3 or 4 level

If you divide 288 by 4 you get 97. Then the 1 is carried to the 2 leaving 12. 12 divided be 4 is 3 leaving a result of 397.

Second one....

217 divided by 5 is 43.4 or 43 with a remainder of 2.

Leaving 5 divided by 5 equaling 1.

Combining the 1 with the 43 with a remainder of 2 bringing you a total of 143 r2

This as mentioned would be at a grade 3 or 4 calculation with no understanding of how to properly divide.

I hope this helps and gives you the "A" you're looking for.

All the best.
