If you divide 288 by 4 you get 97. Then the 1 is carried to the 2 leaving 12. 12 divided be 4 is 3 leaving a result of 397.

Second one....

217 divided by 5 is 43.4 or 43 with a remainder of 2.

Leaving 5 divided by 5 equaling 1.

Combining the 1 with the 43 with a remainder of 2 bringing you a total of 143 r2

This as mentioned would be at a grade 3 or 4 calculation with no understanding of how to properly divide.
