TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

What do you mean by "changed the resolution"?

If you cannot see anything on the screen, you may need to adjust the graphing TI 84 calculator contrast :

1.To darken the screen, press and release 2nd key, and then press and hold up-arrow key until the display is sufficiently dark.

2. To lighten the screen, press and release 2nd key, and then press and hold Down-arrow key until the display is sufficiently light.

The screen is completely blank and none of the keys are working

Hello; try these steps to get you back up and calculation. 1.) Make sure that the batteries are fresh and that the terminals are correctly aligned. 2.) And this is the most common problem: Press 2nd and then hold the up key. This will adjust the contrast. If correctly done the cursor should appear. If the screen gets too dark the press 2nd and down. This will lower the contrast.

New batteries, turned it on and screen is completely black.

First, try adjusting the contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow for a few seconds and see whether the screen lightens.

If that doesn't do it, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for at least ten seconds. Replace the batteries.

If that doesn't do it, add a comment here and we'll go from there.

Hello,
Since I do not see the kind of screen you have, I surmise (maybe wrongly) that the split screen is activated.
Press [MODE]. Use [DownArrow] to scroll to where is says Full Horiz G-T. Highlight FULL and [ENTER] Then [2nd][QUIT].

If that does not solve the problem
[2nd][MEM] [7:Reset][2:defaults][2:Reset]

Hope it helps.
